Asian Buggy Championships Indonesia – Cancelled

The organisers of the upcoming Asian Buggy Championships season finale which was set to take place in Jakarta have cancelled the race due to the civil unrest that Indonesia is currently experiencing.  The fourth round was scheduled to run from September 10-14th at Westside Raceway in the capital and bring a conclusion to a very successful 3rd season the championship,  However, due to safety concerns for racers, track owner Adrian Wicaksono advised championship promoter Scotty Ernst to cancel the race.  Having debuted on the championship calendar last year, the dirt track a huge hit with racers, the unfortunate announcement was communicated directly to registered racers in a letter from Ernst who emphasised ‘Everyone’s safety is our number one concern’.

In the overnight hours here in the US, I was contacted by Adrian Wicaksono the owner of Westside Raceway and resident of Jakarta Indonesia.

He informed me of the civil unrest and dangerous environment that is currently happening in Jakarta and other areas of Indonesia. The United States, Australia and Canada have upgraded the security risk to its citizens on traveling to Indonesia. Adrian’s feeling is that the civil unrest will not improve in the coming week and possibly worsen.

So with the information from Adrian, reading all I can about the current situation online, and considering all of our concerns for everyones safety, I have made the decision to cancel Round 4 of the 2025 Asian Buggy Championship scheduled for September 10-14 2025 in Jakarta.

Everyone’s safety is our number one concern, and this dictates my decision. I am fully aware that everyone has already purchased flights/accommodation/etc, but with the increased security risk well documented online, I have to believe that all airlines will issue a travel credit for your flights. They may not give you a refund, but most airlines should give you a travel credit to be used on a later flight good up to 1 year.

It has been a frantic few hours for me trying to learn all I can about the situation and trying to make the correct decision. I sincerely appreciate Adrian’s foresight on this. This has not been talked about on the US news and I did not know anything about the current civil unrest.

If anyone has thoughts, concerns or any input they would like to share with us please email me at sepeventinfo@gmail.com and I will be happy to help.

Safety is the #1 priority for all of us in life. Of course we all want to race, but there will always be another chance and we want everyone to be safe.

I thank you in advance for your patience, understanding and support of our decision.

Sincerely,
Scotty Ernst
