IFMAR World Championship Update – Original schedule unlikely

IFMAR has just issued an update on the hosting of the 1:12 and ITSC World Championships in Foshan, China, which at present looks unlikely to be staged as originally scheduled. In the update the World Governing body states, ‘While discussions remain ongoing, the matters affecting the event have not yet been resolved and it is now highly unlikely that the championships will be able to take place on the currently scheduled dates.’ With just 2-weeks until the 1:12 Worlds was due to begin at Hongyu GDC, it looks like racers will have to try recoup their flights where possible with IFMAR also highlighting that it is looking at alternative locations and new dates to ensure both classes categories crown World Champions in 2026. IFMAR will provide a further update in the next 48-hours.
Dear Competitors,
As promised, we would like to provide a further update regarding the IFMAR Electric Track World Championships scheduled later this month in China.IFMAR has been in daily communication with FEMCA, the event host, and several contacts in China. While discussions remain ongoing, the matters affecting the event have not yet been resolved and it is now highly unlikely that the championships will be able to take place on the currently scheduled dates.
In parallel with these discussions, IFMAR has commenced active planning for alternative arrangements for the Championships. This includes consideration of potential alternative dates and facilities, including alternative locations if required.
Competitors should therefore be aware that the event is not presently expected to proceed as scheduled, pending further clarification from the relevant authorities and the host.
We understand that this situation creates uncertainty and inconvenience for competitors who are preparing to travel. Unfortunately, the circumstances that have arisen were unforeseen and involve matters outside IFMAR’s direct control.
A further update will be provided within the next 48 hours, or sooner should there be any significant developments.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
