2017/18 Mibosport Cup finale – Report

The final round of the 2017/18 Mibosport Cup was held this past weekend in Hrotovice, Czech Republic. The grand final was held at the usual location within a sports hall but the attendees had to cope with difficult weather conditions travelling to the destination. Nevertheless a total of 254 entries, including several ETS and EOS stars, made it to the race that marked the season end of the famous championship series. In the premier on-road class, Touring Modified, it was Ronald Völker who lead the way in front of teammate Christopher Krapp. Young Oliver Havranek however was highly motivated and starting from P3 he tried to stay in touch with the battling pair up front. Ultimately it was Ronald with the win from Christopher 2nd and Oliver, after some nice driving, in 3rd. Dominic Vogl finished further back on the 4th position beating Dionys Stadler in 5th.

Stock LRP was all about Oliver Havranek and Zdeno Kunak as the two dominated the qualifying. However this encounter showed that sometimes it is better to be the lucky 3rd. Collisions between the leading pair together with some bad luck with backmarkers lead to the surprising victory of Polish driver Lukasz Mach. Oliver Havranek snatched at least a 2nd position and Marton Tóth, scoring a win in the final leg, rounded out the podium. The unpopular 4th place remained for Zdeno Kunak as Robert Patrzek completed the top 5.

Lukas Hoch took the TQ in the Formula class after the qualifiers and he would also lead at some points in the finals, however David Ehrbar, coming from the 2 spot, had other intensions and so he got past Lukas when it counted and took the win in two A-mains to take the overall from Andreas Stiebler 2nd. TQ Lukas had to settle for 3rd overall following some surely unsatisfying runs. Behind the three Herbert Weber took home the 4th spot and Wolfgang Reichel managed to finish 5th.

In 1/10th GT Pan Car Michael Klausner showed his back to the rest of the racing field. Victories in A1 and A2 allowed him to sit out A3 that was brought home by Igor Liptak. The very experienced racer from Slovakia took his chance to secure the overall runner-up spot from Radovan Konopik in 3rd. Dusan Bayer finished in 4th from Marcus Reiser 5th.

The growing 1/12th scale class attracted 13 entries this time and the race was won by Tomas Liptak after some great runs in the A-mains. Brano Panak came in 2nd as he wasn’t able to follow Tomas’ ultra-quick pace. Marcel Dostal had a maiden Mibosport Cup outing this weekend and finished in 3rd.

Over to off-road and in 2WD Modified Buggy it was all Martin Bayer. Martin made a clean sweep to take the day’s win from teammate, Kaja Novotny as Ales Bidovsky snatched the final podium spot. Adam Iszay and Max Götzl would round out the top 5 results.

4WD Modified Buggy however was a completely different story. TQ holder Martin Bayer was unable to conserve his qualifying performance, finished in 1st only in A1. Kaja Novotny however took the win in A2, shifting the decision for the overall into A3. After an entertaining A3, with racing incidents and drama, it was Kaja who hold the upper hand to take the overall win from Martin 2nd and Adam Iszay 3rd.

Finally in 2WD Stock Buggy the spectators were pleased by some very entertaining “limited power” racing as each of the top 3 drivers won a final leg. In the end it was Christian Fuchs who prevailed to take the win in the tie-breaker from René Kronsteiner as Robert Fekete took the final podium spot.
