Louth RCCC Schumacher Winter Series Rd1 – Report

The past weekend saw the running of the Schumacher Winter Series presented by the Louth Radio Control Car Club. The series in its third year and in conjunction with Schumacher Racing, remained the same with the rules and format focusing on the racing and not the budget of the racers. This year the classes remained the same with 13.5 Blinky, 17.5 Open, Tamiya Euro Trucks, GT12 and the additional of the Tamiya M-Chassis and MTC. Clashes with other events would see the numbers at a solid 50, as drivers rolled in for an action packed day of racing. Chris Lovely would be in control of the 13.5 class, taking three rounds of qualifying, Andrew Green would take 2nd with his TQ run, whilst the battle for 3rd was close between Daniel Burks and Joseph Cocking. Callum Chapman and Lisa Keen would make the main final and round out the proceedings.

Chris would have a flag to flag final one, but a recovery drive would see him do enough to take the win. The battle for 2nd was close between three drivers with Andrew Green taking the 2nd spot just ahead of Daniel Burks.

In 17.5 there would be no defending champion from the previous year, meaning an open chance for the rest. Steve Tindall would be the top qualifier, young charger Harvey Greenfield would like up 2nd after staking his claim with a TQ run. Peter Covell would tie for 2nd but that TQ run proving pivotal for Harvey. Chris Chapman showed the speed to line up 4th, Trevor Welbourn had a good run to 5th ahead of the returning Scott West.

The finals were a close affair in in both finals the front four cars would break away and be nose to tail for the first few minutes. Mistakes would creep in, joint on points Steve Tindall would take the win with the crucial TQ placing, Harvey Greenfield would show well in the finals to second. The rest of field holding station with Peter Covell 3rd from Chris Chapman, Trevor Welbourn and Scott West.

In Tamiya Euro Trucks Callum Chapman would taking a demanding qualifying performance and dominate proceedings. Richard Howells would hold 2nd from Mike Mansell, Harvey Greenfield and Adam Jessop. The field would hold station during both of the finals, Callum checking out whilst the rest of the field battled it out. Callum would take the win from Richard, Mike, Harvey and Adam.

New for this year was the introduction of the Tamiya M-Chassis and MTC. Sadly not enough for their own race but mixed into the GT12 battle. Chris Whiteside would continue his dominant performance in the class and at the club taking the top spot from Steve Tindall new to the class. Craig Illingworth would have a good return in 3rd ahead of Paul Vincent and Matt Dutfield. Lee Ward would be the fastest MTC running mixing it well with the GT12, and Michael Burks would be the fastest Tamiya M-Chassis from John Yarnell.

Finals were a mixed affair with Chris Whiteside taking flag to flag victories. Lee Ward would mix his MTC in the GT12 cars into 2nd with Paul Vincent capitalising and moving up to 3rd. Steve Tindall would be 4th from Craig Illingworth, with Michael Burks winning the Tamiya battle ahead of John Yarnell and Matt would round out the race result.

The next event is on November 10th, all information can be found on the club’s social media page and website.

Thanks to Chris Lovely for the report.
