BRCA Clubmans Rd6 Aldershot – Report

Round 6 of the BRCA Clubmans series took the racers South to Hampshire, home of Aldershot Model Car Club. Saturday practice saw drivers our in shorts and tee shirts with the sun out all day. Seven rounds of controlled practice in heat order was the order of the day so the racers got plenty of track time. Sunday morning and what a change in the weather, yep the weather man got it wrong again. A very overcast start to the day was soon followed by fine rain for the first round of qualifying which turned into intermittent showers. The track never completely dried all day so wet tyres for the Touring cars and Formula One’s were needed.

FTQ in the TC 17.5 Blinky class went to Glenn Westwood with three TQ runs after a slow start in Round one. In Formula One Luke Lee was back on form taking all four round wins to secure pole position.

With a rough start to the 17.5 Blinky A Final we had Darren Tickner run out the first leg winner from Liam Hendy and Mark Trinder. Leg 2 saw Jay Westwood take an easy win from brother Glenn and Daniel Robins coming home third. The overall positions after two legs were Darren Tickner 1st, Mark Trinder 2nd and Glenn Westwood 3rd.

The Formula One finals saw the perfect end to a treacherous day’s racing for Luke Lee taking both leg wins making it a clean Sweep of wins. With a third and second place Michael Friebel took the second step on the podium with Stephen Lander rounding our the top three.

Congratulations to all the drivers in such tricky slippery conditions and to the club for running a great day’s racing.

Thanks to Mark Young for the report.
