Ronald Volker talks FlySky

We have followed Ronald Volker’s career for quite some time, first meeting him in person at the conclusion of the inaugural ETS season at Andernach, Germany, in 2008 when he raced for Hot Bodies and pushed Atsushi Hara the win.  Over the years we have tried to get the 2016 World Champion to ‘put pen to paper’ and give Red RC an insight into his racing.  While we kind of missed the boat at a time when Ronald was just a driver, during his Yokomo days he literally did no work on the cars, now his duties are far wider.  Not just racing for Mugen Seiki and being his own mechanic but also managing the Japanese manufacturer’s touring car race team.  A long time Sanwa user, Ronald would be one of the first major touring car drivers to join FlySky as a sponsored driver and with the Chinese manufacturer just after unveiling their new premium Noble Mix transmitter at Hobby Expo China, he has sent us this first attempt at a column in which he gives his experience with the radio since making the switch.  Take it away Ronald –  ‘Since joining Flysky and running the Noble Pro Series of Radios for around 2.5 years, I am still amazed of the quality and functions.  I visited Flysky and its office in late 2023 and could witness their dedication and motivation to become better and better and to be clearly seen as the top radio manufacturer.  Most importantly, I’ve had zero failures or issues wherever I used it in the World.  Everything is just simple and easy to use and manage – and there is even more to explore, the more you are willing to spend time with for.

In terms of features the bottom stand is a power bank but a switched-on radio can be used without power bank/bottom stand as the battery for the radio itself is located in the handle!  Also that battery is easy to exchange out of the handle once it is used a lot, very convenient.  I don’t even use the stand/power bank at all when I’m driving!  The touch screen and display has great quality, ‘intuitive’ to use with most of apps self explaining.  It can’t get much easier and nicer than this.  A lot of functions are possible to individually set it up in a prefered order or design look, meaning you can have your radio very personalised.  Rather unusual, but the steering wheel foam on the Noble Pro+ has so much grip and is the best wheel foam I have had, no slipping away from the wheel, didn’t believe it could make any difference until I have known this foam, underrated must have option even for Non-Flysky users!  Easy to find the perfect individual angle of the steering unit in seconds, also for left handed drivers it is not needed to install specific left hand units.  Personally, I have no experience with I-bus and its functions, but to set up the servo with the radio can be a great advanced feature you can play with, once you are aware what you want or need it for.

From a practical use point, for 24hr team events like the one in Germany during summer or other endurance races, with handout cars/models, using a Flysky radio is an advantage.  You can use the power bank to charge the battery inside the radio when needed at any time or with the use of a second/spare power bank in a change of a split second, makes it perfect to not worry about the battery as this could be crucial in an endurance race while you technically wouldn’t need any power bank/radio stand while driving.  Also a left hand driver can quickly join with the adjustable steering unit.  On a side note, I did lend my previous/spare radio, a Noble Pro, to my friends’ team in this matter and they used it with success against 17 teams, finishing 3rd on the podium.  I can highly recommend Flysky in the present and future for anyone.  I’m happy to be a part of it.’
