Coelho takes close Q2 from Pietsch & Rheinard

Bruno Coelho has made it two out of two in qualifying at the season finale of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Germany but unlike last night’s opening qualifier the Xray driver didn’t have it all his own way.  Initially it was Marc Rheinard who laid down the TQ pace with Loic Jasmin taking the challenge to him.  With Ronald Volker suffering a spin and pulling off to save tyres, his car having ‘too much steering’, Jasmin would put Yokomo at the top of the timing screens briefly before Rheinard took it back as Coelho joined the mix.  In the end Coelho would take it on the timing screens from Rheinard but an impressive run from Pietsch in the heat before would put the Mugen driver second fastest, the separation just 0.086 of a second with Rheinard just 2/10ths off.  Viljami Kutvonen would be the only other driver to run 21-laps in the hotter conditions to give him a P4.

Coelho takes Q1 comfortably over Rheinard

Bruno Coelho has taken the opening round of qualifying at the season finale of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Germany.  The Xray driver took advantage of the cooling evening conditions to set the pace by more 3-seconds from Marc Rheinard. Having topped the seeding practice, Ronald Volker completed the Top 3 having to give way to the faster Coelho who started the first of the 4 scheduled qualifiers behind him.  Having scraped into the top heat Naoto Matsukura would finish a surprise 4th fastest with Freddy Sudhoff and Christopher Krapp completing the Top 6.

Volker top seed at ETS Germany

Ronald Volker is the top seed for qualifying at ETS Germany. Having set the fastest 3-consecutive laps in the first of the two rounds of controlled practice, the Yokomo driver’s time would stand as Volker failed to improve on a slightly hotter track in CP2. Topping the final practice from Volker would be Bruno Coelho, the Xray driver breaking into the 42-seconds for his 3-laps following his tyre issues in CP1.  Making a massive improvement on his opening time, Infinity’s Jilles Groskamp would post the third fastest time by just 1/1000th of a second in front of Freddy Südhoff, the Awesomatix driver also taking a chunk out of his CP1 time. With Volker the only driver seeded in the top 7 not having run their faster time in CP2, that ranking would be completed by Marc Rheinard, Naoki Akiyama and Loic Jasmin.

Volker fastest in first controlled practice at ETS Finale

Ronald Volker is the early benchmark at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series Season Finale in Germany.  Having topped free practice at Minidrom Ettlingen, the Yokomo driver remained top of the timesheets in the first of the two rounds of controlled seeding practice as he continued to get the most from his car on the track’s unique asphalt and banked corners.  Closest to Volker, as he had been in Free Practice, would be Bruno Coelho albeit it by half a second – the Xray driver having a tyre issue and only completing half of CP1 before pulling off. Infinity’s Akio Sobue made it three different manufacturers in the Top 3 followed closely by team-mate Rheinard with Yannic Prumper and Meen Vejrak rounding out the Top 6.

JJ Wang completes perfect weekend at CETC in Shanghai

Xray Factory driver JJ Wang took the win in the 2nd A-main, to secure the overall win of the 3rd round of the CETC presented by Infinity with one final in hand. On his home track, RCI V2, the Chinese American maintained a 0.9 second lead over Nicholas Lee to convert his pole position into the win here in Shanghai. In what was a relatively uneventful A2 in comparison to the opening leg, Awesomatix driver Rocket Zhang could maintain his 3rd place starting position with ease with the only driver to make a big mistake being Xray youngster Lao Ming Hao, who following the incident on the 5th lap, fell back to 8th and was not able to recover.

Eventful A1 allows Wang to take easy win

Following the final two qualifiers in the morning, the finals at RCI V2 in Shanghai finally got underway. In the opening modified class A-main TQ driver JJ Wang pulled away right from the start and was able to quickly build up a large lead while the rest of the field had a rough start following an early coming together. In the end the Xray factory driver cruised to the win ahead of Serpent team driver Felix Law, who following a tough battle emerged in 2nd place while under huge pressure from Nicholas Lee, managing to hold off the Singaporean driver by 0.5 seconds at the end. Just behind the ‘unlucky’ Yokomo driver, Rocket Zhang finished the final just 0.38 seconds back and took 4th position, the gap from 2nd to 4th being covered by less than a second at the end of the 5 minute run. Young Xray driver Lao Min Hao held 2nd position early in the race but fell back to end the race behind Motor King in 6th.

JJ Wang secures CETC pole position in Q3

Xray continued to dominate qualifying in the Modified class as JJ Wang secured the overall TQ, taking the 3rd round this morning at RCI V2 in Shanghai at Rd3 of the CETC presented by Infinity. The factory Xray driver quickly built up a lead from the start and ended the race 2.5 seconds up on Yokomo team driver Nicholas Lee to claim pole position for this afternoon’s triple A-mains. Awesomatix driver Rocket Zhang was in 2nd position at the halfway point in the run but he was overtaken by Lee and Lao Min Hao, but in the final minute the local Shanghai driver found pace to get back passed Hao and take 3rd at the end. After 3 rounds Rocket is sitting in fourth behind Lao Min Hao in the overall classification, while Serpent driver Felix Law had a repeat of his performance in Q1, taking 5th position.

Q2 in Shanghai again goes to JJ Wang

Xray Factory driver JJ Wang continued to stamp his authority on the event as he took another round of qualifying in the modified class at the 3rd round of the 2017 CETC presented by Infinity at RCI V2 in Shanghai. A very consistent round for the Chinese American driver this run however was slower than Q1 due to the mostly unexpected drop in traction. Yokomo factory driver Nicholas Lee once again had to settle for second place, however the gap to Wang in 1st this time was down to just 1.9 seconds as the Singaporean continued to improve. Xray youngster Lao Ming Hao and Awesomatix driver Rocket Zhang maintained their position from the opening round with the former National Champion just 0.2 seconds behind the CETC Rd1 Rising Star winner in 3rd. For this round Yokomo driver Motor King managed to regain some of his lost practice pace to take 5th place ahead of 2016 Reedy Race Open Modified class Champion Julian Wong. JJ’s mechanic, Xray driver Hara Tune ended the round 7th, with another 3 Xray drivers completing the Top 10, with Canadian driver Mihnea Lupu, Jerry Dai and Nicholas Koh respectively.
