Coelho is Top Qualifier at ENS opener

Coelho is Top Qualifier at ENS opener

Bruno Coelho is Top Qualifier for the opening round of the Euro Nitro Series in Bologna, Italy. The Xray driver claimed his first ENS pole position by topping 2 of the 4 qualifiers and was on for a third TQ run in the final qualifier before a mistake. This left an improved Dominic Greiner to take Q4 and with it secure 2nd on the grid ahead of his Serpent team-mate Alessio Mazzeo. Mazzeo was the only one who could deny Coelho the overall TQ but the Q2 pace setter’s engine ran rich over the opening laps which was enough to leave him with a P2 in the very closely match World class driver line-up. For reigning champion Jilles Groskamp he will start his title defence from 6th on the grid behind Mark Green (P4) and former champion Erik Dankel (P5).

With a very strong performance in A2, LRP driver JJ Wang has taken overall victory at the opening round of the AOC held at RCI V2 in Shanghai. In a straight up battle with Ronald Volker the local ace took a decisive win over the German, ending the Yokomo driver’s 100% winning record at the AOC. Jan Ratheisky improved upon his A1 finish by taking 3rd place after another incident involving Naoto Matsukura, this time with Jilles Groskamp, allowed him to get through. Naoto would recover from 6th to 4th after a very late incident between the Dutch driver and local driver Rocket Zhang.

JJ Wang takes easy A1 in Shanghai

JJ Wang takes easy A1 in Shanghai

Local ace JJ Wang has taken a clear win in the first Modified A-main at RCI V2 in Shanghai, taking the hole shot and never being challenged, also helped by an early incident between Ronald Volker and Naoto Matsukura that allowed him to build an early gap. The beneficiary of the incident was Jilles Groskamp, who managed to sneak passed the carnage and up into 2nd. A mid race pass on 4th place finisher Jan Ratheisky  gave Chinese legend Motor King the 3rd position.

Wang takes rocket round to TQ AOC

Wang takes rocket round to TQ AOC

JJ Wang is top qualifier in Shanghai having topped the final round in qualifying in what were quicker track conditions as heavy rain outside lowered the track temperature and increased humidity. The only driver to manage a 31 lap run all weekend, he also set a new fastest lap on his way to the top spot. Ronald Volker will start 2nd, having also improved his time despite a heavy hit against the barriers early in the race tweaked his car. Naoto Matsukura takes 3rd with a solid run that saw him break into the 9 second lap times, leap frogging a disappointed Jilles Groskamp who also made a mistake and will now start from fourth on the grid.

Volker remains on top as Groskamp edges closer

fri_ronald3

Expected to be a faster round due the lowering temperature and increasing grip, that prediction did not materialise and conditions remained unchanged with round topper Ronald Volker’s time marginally slower than what he produced in Q1. JJ Wang remains second overnight despite crashing his car later in the heat, the LRP driver pulling up despite not damaging his car. Jilles Groskamp was the only driver in the top 3 to improve, moving to within 1.2 seconds of Wang’s Q1 time, while Jan Rathiesky’s overhauled Xray T4 was vastly improved and he leapt passed Rocket Zhang into the 5th position.

Ronald Volker tops Q1 at AOC Shanghai

Ronald Volker tops Q1 at AOC Shanghai

Ronald Volker has taken the opening qualifying round at RCI V2 in Shanghai, the German waiting until the last lap to take the top spot from practice pace setter JJ Wang. While JJ held the top spot from the start and even set his fastest lap of the event, a late mistake by the Chinese-American youngster meant he would have to settle for 2nd. The 3rd spot would go to Jilles Groskamp who would again set the second fastest lap time but some small mistakes lost him time to his rivals.
