Martin tops opening 4WD qualifier

Martin tops opening 4WD qualifier

Fresh from his win in 2WD yesterday Lee Martin has topped the opening round of 4WD qualifying at the Euro Offroad Series in Berlin.  The Yokomo driver was one of the few drivers to complete an error free 5-minutes to top the times from Team Associated’s Patrick Hofer and his Yokomo engineer Shin Adachi by a clear 6.8-seconds.  For defending champion Joern Neumann, who struggled in 2WD, it was not the start the German was looking for as he struggled with the high traction to end up only 25th fastest.

Jilles Groskamp leaves Tamiya

2012 IFMAR World Champion Jilles Groskamp has announced that he has left long time electric touring chassis sponsor Tamiya. Deciding not to renew his contract for the 2015/16 season, the Dutchman who is based in Thailand has announced that he has a new deal already lined up but who that is with is yet to be announced but we have a fairly strong idea who it will be. Jilles stated the following:

Today is the day I will not be driving for Tamiya anymore! I have decided not to renew my contract with them for the 2015-2016 season. A new adventure has come on my path and I’m more motivated and excited then ever. I want to thank Tamiya for 7 great years! I have won my first Euro and World title with them and without their help I will not have achieved those ultimate victories! I would like to wish all the Tamiya guys lots of success and I’m sure they will as the 419 is a great car! For all my “Tamiya” fans all over the world I would like to thank you for all the support and I’m very sorry to tell you this news but you are always welcome to visit my at the races for a chat or drop me a message! Soon I will inform you more about my new adventure, so stay tuned!

Martin sees off Ronnefalk to take A1

Lee Martin won the opening 2WD A-Main at the EOS in Berlin this afternoon after seeing off a strong challenge from David Ronnefalk.  Top Qualifier for the second round of the championship, the Yokomo driver led from start to finish with a late mistake from Ronnefalk allowing him to cruise to a 1.7-seconds winning margin.  Making the race their own, behind them it was Joern Neumann who completed the Top 3 after contact from Martin Wollanka on lap 4 dropped him back down the order.

Ronnefalk gifts Martin Berlin TQ with last lap error

Ronnefalk gifts Martin Berlin TQ with last lap error

David Ronnefalk has gifted Lee Martin the overall TQ honours at Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series in Berlin.  Looking on target for his first pole position start in the championship, the Swede would make an error on the wall section on his final lap with the timing loop just one corner away.  Holding more than a 2-second advantage over Martin, the Yokomo driver having suffered a mistake of his own early in the run, the Swede would end up crossing the finish with a half second deficit to Martin who claimed a third TQ run of the day to secure his second ever EOS pole position.  Behind Ronnefalk and Martin, the pair having a slight edge over the rest of the field, Joern Neumann, despite another disappointing qualifier, will start third.

Ronnefalk fastest in Q3

Ronnefalk fastest in Q3

David Ronnefalk denied Lee Martin an early overall TQ at the second round of qualifying at the EOS in Germany when the HB driver set a new fastest time in the penultimate round of 2WD qualifying.  Having finished second to Martin in Q1 and then 3rd in Q2 after a number of crashes, Ronnefalk would drive a faultless third qualifier to run the first 16-lap qualifier at the Berlin event.  With Ronnefalk and Martin running a very similar pace swapping position at the top of the timing screens it was a late mistake from Martin, who took the opening two qualifiers, that would end his chances of putting the overall TQ beyond the reach of his rivals.  Martin Wollanka would enjoy his best run so far to complete the Top 3 for the round while Joern Neumann having posted the second fastest time in previous round would crash leaving the former champion only 9th quickest.

Neumann tops 4WD seeding at EOS

Defending champion Joern Neumann will be the top seed for Sunday’s 4WD action at Round 2 of Euro Offroad Series with the German topping timed practice from 2WD top seed Lee Martin who also set the early 4WD pace.  Fastest in the first timed practice Neumann further improved his 3-consecutive lap pace in the closing round as did Martin, the pair separated by just 0.047 of a second.  Making his EOS debut for Team C, Robert Batlle completed a good first day as he backed up his 3rd in 2WD practice also with a Top 3 in 4WD.

Form continues for Martin in 4WD practice

Form continues for Martin in 4WD practice

Having topped 2WD practice at Round 2 of the Euro Offroad Series in Berlin earlier in the day, Lee Martin carried that form through to 4WD with the Yokomo driver setting the pace in the classes free practice.  Setting his best 3-consecutive laps in the second of the 3 rounds, the British driver set the pace from defending champion Joern Neumann although the gap between them was just 0.006 of a second.  2/10ths off them, Hupo Honigl completed the Top 3 followed by Robert Battle, David Ronnefalk and Martin Bayer.
