On the Grapevine – Trencin & Scottsdale

On the Grapevine – Trencin & Scottsdale

July of last year I opened my first report from the Euro Touring Series Finale with ‘The greatest R/C venue in the World’, that venue being the Hudy Arena. My first time to visit this track and the Xray factory, which are both part of the one facility, on returning to Slovakia 8-months later for the Euro Offroad Series’ first trip to the Hudy Arena I was still just as impressed by the place. This time round I would be working alongside my good Italian friend Ricky Acciari who would be looking after photography and on the 2 hour drive from Vienna to Trencin there was an air of excitement in the rental car. As it was Ricky’s first visit he was super excited about seeing the place in the flesh but I was even more excited about showing him around as if I actually had in someway had something to do with the creation of the place!! I didn’t but so impressive is the place I was proud our sport could boast such a facility. Asking EOS drivers their thoughts on the place all were nothing but impressed. Although I had taken the Xray factory tour on my previous visit Ricky was a damn good excuse for me to take it again and my appreciation for the work that goes into the production there grew even more as I picked up on things I missed the last time – like that each of the teeth on a XB8 diff crown gear are individually cut in a process that per unit takes 20-minutes!!!

DE Racing MP9 & D8'12 BumpSkids

DE Racing has just expanded our line of BumpSkids with new models for the Kyosho MP9 TKI3 and Hot Bodies D812. The Kyosho BumpSkid was designed to work with the thicker front hinge pin plate that was adopted at the 2010 Worlds and now standard on the TKI3. The Hot Bodies model complements the factory rear skid plate for complete chassis protection. Also new from DE Racing is a mud guard for the Hot Bodies D812 that attaches to the rear arms using factory holes.

Evolution Not Revolution

Evolution Not Revolution

The Formula One championship got under way this weekend in Australia. Whether you’re a fan of F1 or not, anyone with any sort of interest in motorsport can’t have avoided the news throughout the winter “off season” – a huge change in the rules bringing about changes in car design and engine configuration – and with that uncertainties over who would adapt best and who may struggle to get to grips with such a huge shift in rules.

A1 Buggy wins for Maifield & Phend

A1 Buggy wins for Maifield & Phend

Ryan Maifield and Dakotah Phend took the opening round of A-Mains at the Pro-Line Cactus Classic this morning in Scottsdale, Arizona.   Maifield won the more interesting encounter, 4WD Buggy, which saw drama before the race even started as Jared Tebo broke a front and rear wishbone during his warm-up laps and was forced to miss the start having been set to start second. 2WD Buggy was a rather processionally affair with Phend cruising to an easy victory, the Top 4 finishing in the same order they finished.

Phend claims first overall Cactus TQ

sat_phendTQ2wd

Dakotah Phend has claimed his first overall Buggy TQ at the Pro-Line Cactus Classic, the Team Losi Racing driver recovering from two crashes to take his second TQ run of the day in the fourth & final qualifier ahead of Travis Amezcua and Ty Tessmann.  A three way battle to become Top Qualifier of the 28th running of the presitigious race it ended up being a bad last round for Jared Tebo and Ryan Maifield.  Having TQ’d Q1 yesterday, Tebo looked to be the benefactor of Phend’s mistakes until he crashed on the last lap dropping him back to seventh.  Fastest  in Q2, Maifield was running on pace with Phend until he crashed, the Arizona driver’s run going downhill from there including his B5M leaving the track at the uphill section.  Despite finishing 15th, Maifield will start 2nd on the grid followed by Associated team-mate Ryan Cavalieri and defending champion Tebo.

Neumann takes overall TQ at Cactus

Neumann takes overall TQ at Cactus

Joern Neumann is Top Qualifier of 4WD Buggy at the Pro-Line Cactus Classic, the Team Durango driver becoming the first European to secure the honour at America’s longest running international offroad event.  The 28th running of the race, Neumann topped the final qualification ranking thanks to his two TQ runs in yesterday’s qualifying.  With only Jared Tebo able to deny the German in the final qualifier, Dakotah Phend prevented that from happening as he claimed the final qualifier ahead Tebo and Neumann.  Tebo will line up second on tomorrow’s A-Main grid with Phend third and defending Champion Ryan Maifield fourth.
