Coelho wraps up EOS season with second 2WD win

Bruno Coelho has wrapped the 2WD racing of EOS Season #8 with his second win in the category.  Having dominated qualifying and the opening A-Main on the championship’s first visit to the Austrian ERT Steyregg track, the Xray driver would bring on an extra workload with an error filled A2 that forced things to go to A3.  With main rival Joona Haatanen, winner of A2, having a bad start to A3 it looked like Coelho’s race was going to be easier but a mistake by the EOS Poland winner would let Champion Michal Orlowski to hit the front.  In this order the overall result would favour Haatanen, thanks to the Team Associated driver having a faster A2 winning time but Orlowski couldn’t hold on and handed the lead back with a mistake three laps later.  Unfortunately for Orlowski the error also cost him a podium to cap off his title winning campaign, with Hupo Honigl filling the final step to return to the EOS podium after a long absence.

Coelho fends off early Orlowski challenge to take A1

Bruno Coelho ended up with an easy win in the opening A-Main of 2WD at the Euro Offroad Series in Austria.  Taking a dominant TQ at the ERT Steyregg track, Coelho wasn’t to have it as easy at the start of A1 coming under string pressure from No.2 qualifier Michal Orlowski until a mistake from the Pole saw him cross the track and cause Coelho to crash.  This allowed third place qualifier Joona Haatanen into the lead but the recovering Coelho didn’t take long to regain his position at the front from where he soon opened up a large advantage over the field.  Behind, Haatanen then had to see off a challenge from Lucas Grainer which he duly did to finish over 3-seconds back on Coelho and over a second up on Grainer, who was clearly delighted to take an A-Main Top 3 finish on his EOS debut.

Coelho Top Qualifier at EOS Austria

Bruno Coelho is the 2WD Top Qualifier at the season finale of the Euro Offroad Series in Steyregg, Austria.  The Xray driver claimed his first 2WD TQ of the season with a third consecutive TQ run in the penultimate round of qualifying to become only the third different pole sitter of this year’s 6 round calendar.  Winner of the second round of the championship, the current 4WD points leader will look to become only the third different 2WD winner of the season later today.  With incoming bad weather, the organisers have decided to bring forward the running of the finals tonight in the hope the first winner at astro surface ERT Steyregg track can be decided in dry conditions.  With Coelho going on to complete a clean sweep of all qualifying rounds, a second place in the concluding qualifier means already confirmed Season #8 champion Michal Orlowski will start P2 with Joona Haatanen lining up third ahead of Lucas Grainer and Hupo Honigl.

Coelho takes opening qualifier at EOS Finale

Bruno Coelho has claimed the opening 2WD qualifier at the Euro Offroad Series Season finale at ERT Steyregg in Austria.  A new venue on the Season #8 calendar, the difficult astro turf track saw the Xray driver top the first of the four qualifiers by over 3-seconds from Team Associated’s Joona Haatanen who, after struggling in practice, was running in the second fastest heat.  Obviously finding some new motivation from racing at home, Hupo Honigl would complete the Top 3 ahead of Xray team-mate Daniel Kobbevik who just missed out on a 12-lap run.  For already crowned 2WD Champion Michal Orlowski it wasn’t a strong start to the event as his run was filled with errors resulting in a P7 for Q1.

Leino doubles up in 2019 with ENS Netherlands victory

After taking the win at the season opening race in Bologna last month, Teemu Leino took a firm step towards the 2019 ENS 1/10th scale title by adding victory this weekend in Rucphen.  The Finnish driver crossed the line first despite running a different tyre strategy to his rivals, benefiting from mistakes and issues for his main challengers.  Making two tyre stops – the first to change just right side tyres after 9 minutes of the race and the second to change all four around two-thirds distance – he took the win over Leo Arnold and ENS returnee Patrick Nahr.  The victory also ties Leino for the most wins in the ENS 1/10th scale class, him now sharing the honour with Dominic Greiner with 5 victories in the prestigious series.

Reedy Race practice rained off in not so sunny California

Sunny California didn’t live up to its billing today with practice for the 22nd running of the Touring Car Reedy Race of Champions being rained off.  With this year’s event the beginning of a new era for the legendary race as it moves from the famous Tamiya RC Raceway, which is no more, to Steel City RC Speedway, invite drivers got just one run in less than ideal conditions, before shortly after lunch the rains returned and the decision was made to call an end to official proceedings.  With cars struggling for traction, reigning 7-time RROC Champion Marc Rheinard joked from the drivers stand it felt like playing Super Mario and running over banana skins. With weather for both Friday and Saturday set to deliver the shorts & t-shirts weather associated with California, Race Director Scotty Ernst issued a new schedule which will see the invitational drivers get two practice runs in the morning before getting down to the real business of 5 rounds of the events unique heads up racing.  A further 5 rounds are planning for Saturday but with rain forecast to arrive again on Sunday afternoon, a call to run the final two rounds of racing on Sunday morning will be made based on the the latest forecast given on Saturday.

Coelho takes easy A1 win

Bruno Coelho has taken an easy win in the opening A1 at Round 4 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Austria this morning.  Starting from the TQ, the Xray driver took advantage of a slow starting Ronald Volker to quickly build a gap and take control of proceedings.  Behind Volker the pack was bunched up before contact between Alexander Hagberg and Marc Rheinard opened things up giving the Yokomo driver the breathing space to get his car up to speed.  After a good battle with Lucas Urbain, Hagberg would eventually find a way passed the Awesomatix driver  to recover to third.

Volker bounces back in Q3

After spinning out while on TQ run in the second round of qualifying, Ronald Volker bounced back to top Q3 at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Austria.  The Yokomo driver produced the quickest run of the day so far, with a 0.289 of second advantage over the Xray of Alexander Hagberg with Q2 pace setter Bruno Coelho completing the Top 3 despite being on used tyres.  Second fastest in each of the opening two qualifiers, Marc Rheinard was looking strong to go one better, but in a similar error to that of Coelho in Q1, he rolled coming onto the main straight on lap 12 of 17.  The only driver to manage a 17-second lap for the round, with any chance of a result gone the Infinity driver pulled up.  Volker’s second TQ run means only Coelho can deny him pole for Saturday’s finals with the Portuguese driver having the advantage of being on new tyres while Volker will be on used.
