Coelho again in Q2

sat_brunoTQ2-620x372

The second round of qualifying at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Germany was a repeat of Q1 as Xray again topped the time sheets with Bruno Coelho fastest ahead of team-mate Alexander Hagberg. Behind the Xrays it was Yokomo who provided the greatest challenge with Yannic Prumper completing the Top 3 ahead of reigning Champion Ronald Volker.  For championship leader and 2015 event winner Marc Rheinard, the round would again only net a P6 with the German needing to turn things around for the final two qualifiers.

sat_coelho2-620x372

Bruno Coelho led an Xray 1-2 this morning at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Germany, TQ’ing the opening qualifier ahead of team-mate Alexander Hagberg.  Having topped the times in practice yesterday, the Round 1 podium finisher would be 1.3-sec faster than Hagberg with reigning ETS Champion Ronald Volker completing the Top 3 a further 1.3-sec off the pace.  Winner of the Muelheim-Kaerlich encounter last year, Marc Rheinard would post only the 6th fastest time with his World Champion TRF team-mate Naoto Matsukura, who was second in practice, retiring from the qualifier with a bad handling car.

Coelho tops brief practice after carpet change at ETS

fri_bruno-copy-620x372

Over a short 2-minute practice at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Germany it was Bruno Coelho who laid claim to being fastest on eventful Day 1 at the second round of the championship.  The biggest race of the ETS to-date, with over 440 entries, a hidden problem would arise during practice when an incorrect batch of carpet left racers struggling for traction.  With no sign of conditions improving, the carpet fluffing up, the championship’s promoters made the brave call to resurface the track.  Having to wait 4-hours for the delivery of the correct ‘ETS Black Carpet’ all the way from the centre of the Netherlands, a pre-selected crew which included the current World Champion Naoto Matsukura did an impressive job to rebuild the track in just 2-hours. With the two planned rounds of practice on the busy schedule having run on the bad carpet, a reshuffle of the timetable during the track resurfacing allowed a quick 2-minute practice round to give drivers a feel for the regular carpet racers have become accustomed too.  The difference in the carpets was immediately clear as Coelho went from a 44-seconds 3-consecutive lap time to a 41.364.

Carpet issues force track rebuild at ETS

fri_trackfish-1-620x372

Having attracted a record 440 plus entries made up of some 360 drivers from around the World, Round 2 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series threw up an unexpected drama this morning during practice as the copy of the 2015 layout through up a hidden problem. Ordering their renowned ‘Black ETS Carpet’, as is done every round, it would transpire that in error a different carpet was delivered to the Muelheim-Kaerlich venue. With the carpet fluffing up and having low traction, the record Formula entry in particular struggling to get their cars to work, the ETS organisers have made the decision to resurface the track with the correct carpet.

Rheinard targets repeat win at ETS Germany

ETS_Rheinard

Having made the perfect start to Season #9 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series with the TQ and win in the Czech Republic, Marc Rheinard will be targeting a repeat performance as the championship travels to Germany this weekend (5-7 February). Attracting a record 440 plus entries, Round 2 takes place in Muelheim-Kaerlich where the Tamiya driver has enjoyed two key successes in the past 12-months.  Last season the 4-time onroad World Champion ended a 5-year drought of ETS victories on carpet at the event and having claimed his first ever Euro Offroad Series win at the same venue just last weekend, the ETS’ most winning driver’s confidence couldn’t be higher.  Racking up his 13th ETS win in Hrotovice, Rheinard’s biggest competition is again set to come from Yokomo in reigning champion Ronald Volker and Xray in both Bruno Coelho & 2014 Mulheim winner Alexander Hagberg.

sun_4WDpod-620x372

Bruno Coelho will go into the final round of the Euro Offroad Series in Austria as championship leader after the Xray driver secured his second win of the season in Germany today.  Top Qualifier for the third round, the World Champion would after a fraught A2, take the overall win ahead of Marc Rheinard with a near perfect drive in the closing race of the championship’s successful first visit to the Muelheim-Kaerlich venue.  For defending 4WD Champion Lee Martin his challenge for a required A3 win lasted just 3-laps as a mistake dropped him down the field, the winner of the season opener at the Nurburgring having to settle for the final step on the podium.

Rheinard handed A2 win as Coelho hits Martin

sun_marcA2-620x372

Marc Rheinard was handed the win in A2 at the Euro Offroad Series as Bruno Coelho clashed with race leader Lee Martin on the penultimate lap.  Sitting in a somewhat distant third when Top Qualifier Coelho got into the back of the leading Yokomo, Rheinard would slip through two recovering cars to go to the front holding off Martin to win by 7/10ths with Coelho completing the Top 3.  The result means it is all to play for at Round 3 in A3, with Coelho, Rheinard and Martin in it for the overall in Germany.

Error not enough to deny Coelho A1 win

sun_fincoemar-620x372

Bruno Coelho has won the opening 4WD A-Main at the Euro Offroad Series in Germany, an error by the World Champion with 5-laps to go while dominating the race not enough to deny the Xray driver beating reigning champion Lee Martin.  Top Qualifier at the third round of the championship, he quickly broke free of the pursuing Yokomo’s of Martin and Marc Rheinard but as the race was looking like a forgone conclusion the Portuguese driver would get the track’s centre roller wrong and collect the cone.  With his car facing the wrong direction as he got it turned around Martin would go to the front injecting new life into the race but it as short lived as Coelho took just a lap to get back to the front.  In a somewhat lonely race for Rheinard he would complete the Top 3, with the top 4 finishing as the lined up for the grid.
