Xray Column – 2010 Ready

The 37th installment in the Xray column from Xray owner and chief designer Juraj Hudy is now online. In this months column, Juraj runs us through the changes to their car line-up for the 2010 season.

Despite it being “only” November on the calendar, for the model hobby industry it is essentially our year end. The winter season has been running for a few weeks already and the Xmas season is now approaching, so you might think that there is not much to do… but you would be wrong. As with other fashionable products such as clothes & shoes, full-size cars, skis, or bicycles, besides their racing factor RC cars are also fashion items and as such require constant attention and development.

Following ongoing requests, MRP has restarted production of the GRP glowplug line, creating a new brand name GRP Plugs. Glowplugs are a very important component for the proper function of the engine and to obtain the maximum possible performance. In most cases problems or breakages that happen on an engine are attributed to a defective or low quality glowplug. GRP’s high quality plugs help prevent these problems and are suitable for all types of engines and racing conditions, with their conical turbo plugs coming in 3 different heat types, C5, C6 & C7. Following the fire that destroyed their premises back in May their production is back up and running with a new line of 1:6 buggy and 1:5 Baja tire lines now available on their site.

Associated 2009 SC Championship body

Associated have come out with the ’09 Championship body for their SC10 as well as Blitz, Strike or Slash. With smooth aerodynamic lines and unparalleled scale realism this body promises to be a race winner. This is a scale replica of the actual full-size body being raced by the top short course pro teams, right down to the included number plates and optional tail fins. Sold clear.

Motonica P8F 4WD Suspension-free chassis

Motonica have announced that their P8F 4WD, which was shown for the first time back in February, is finally available. A totally new concept of suspension-free 1:8 scale 4wd car, Motonica wishes to offer the market an entry level model that can attract new drivers and enable them to approach the On-Road category. They believe this shall be possible thanks to the low maintenance costs and simplicity of its construction, as well as the possibility to also buy the model complete with the engine and the exhaust system in a single Combo Tech package. This model will be just as fun for those who wish to entertain themselves without having to endure the complexities typical in high level competition models.

Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro 1 cell

Castle Creations have introduced a special, very limited, run of their Mamba Max Pro that are specially modified to run in the one cell classes. Only made to order, these are special controllers that will have their BEC circuit removed so you will need an outboard 4.8 – 6.0 volt power source to run your electronics. They are still good to 6S max and you get to use all of the advanced Smart Sense and Cheat mode settings. The cutoff for orders must be December 11, 2009 so if you want one you will need to act fast.

RC4wd Outlaw Baja wheels & Rok Lox tires

RC4wd have released their new Outlaw Baja racing wheels for the HPI Baja 5T. The new wheels have been CNC machined from 6061 aluminium and offer a scale CORR racing look for that ultimate trophy truck look. Weighing in at 400 grams and 424 grams for a pair of fronts and rears respectively, they have the same offset as the stock wheels and fit the current range of Baja 5T tires. Also from RC4wd are their Rok Lox tires that just got bigger (219mm dia. x 80mm wide) making them one of the most scale looking 4.0 tires available to date. The Rok Lox 4.0 is manufactured with the most advanced rubber compound and are sure to give you some aggressive bite on the rock. Sold in pairs and supplied with memory foam inserts.
