Team Orion Carbon Molecular LiPo batteries

Team Orion Carbon Molecular LiPo batteries

Team Orion have announced their new range of hard case Carbon Molecular LiPo batteries. Since 2008 Oscar Jansen, the company’s electric R&D manager, has been working closely with their manufacturing plant with the aim to create the most powerful LiPo battery produced today. The goal has been to produce cells made for RC Car applications and not to just choose existing cells from the industrial production and put them on the market. Everything started from a white page, a new factory was established and all the production is exclusive to Team Orion. The basic idea is to produce the lowest internal resistance batteries with the highest power output able to provide the peak current required for acceleration but also to maintain the voltage under heavy load. Multi carbon molecules are used in the construction of the LiPo batteries so the cells have the possibility to recover voltage extremely fast. This allows a 45C constant current discharge of 10 seconds which means about 250 Amps. For such current pure copper 12AWG wire is used, soldered directly to the cell terminals. Available in a wide range of configurations for different applications.

Mike Truhe spotted testing new Powerplant

Mike Truhe seen testing new Powerplant

We have received word out of California that former ROAR National Champion Mike Truhe was recently spotted testing a new power plant in his Losi buggy. The new motor was seen being used in his 8ight chassis and is a departure from the usual Alpha unit that the Team Orion driver normally uses, for starters sporting a black cooling head in place of the familiar red unit. The test was part of Mike’s preparations for this week’s Nitrocross race in Arizona where our source believes he will debut the new engine. Having lost their previous GRP engine tie up, when the Italian company ceased production earlier this year, this new motor could be the result of a bigger plan by US company Horizon Hobby, who own Losi, to once again link up with a major competition engine manufacturer. We will keep you informed as we know more.
