Greiner claims first TQ of season at ENS Austria

Dominic Greiner has claimed his first overall TQ of the 2018 Infinity Euro Nitro Series, the Serpent driver securing his 7th ENS career TQ by finishing second fastest to Erik Dankel in the final round of qualifying in Austria.  Having taken the opening two rounds of qualifying around the Aigen track, Q3 would see him flip his car with Thilo Tödtmann surprising everyone to come out on top after a last lap mistake from Dankel.  This meant Tödtmann had the opportunity to deny the World Champion pole for tomorrow’s 45-minute main but it would be Dankel who was fastest, completing the job he looked to do in the previous qualifier with just 6/100th in hand over Greiner.  With two from four to count, Greiner had the perfect score to secure pole while Dankel’s TQ run promoted him to 2nd ahead of Tödtmann who rounded out qualifying with a P5 run.  While having two P2 runs behind Greiner, championship leader and previous round Top Qualifier Jilles Groskamp will start 4th ahead of Francesco Tironi and Dirk Wischnewski.

Greiner TQs opening qualifier at ENS Austria

Dominic Greiner has TQ’d the opening round of 1:10 qualifying at the Infinity Euro Nitro Series in Austria.  With qualifying originally scheduled to get underway yesterday evening before rain forced the cancellation of the second half of the day, Greiner picked up where he left off.  Fastest in free practice yesterday, those times determining the seeding after this morning’s planned controlled practice were made into untimed practice as the track proved much slower following the rain, Greiner took the first of the four qualifiers by a second over a much improved Jilles Groskamp.  Francesco Tironi would post the third fastest time followed by Alessio Mazzeo and Eric Dankel, the latter two both suffering early mistakes at the start of the 4-minutes.

Gruber & Greiner top free practice as rain halts action at ENS Austria

In an all too familiar situation at races this Summer, rain has halted action at the third round of the Infinity Euro Nitro Series in Austria.  After completing 8 rounds of free practice in dry conditions yesterday and a further 3 rounds this morning, just after the drivers briefing and scheduled lunch the rain arrived at the Aigen-Schlägl.  With 2 rounds of controlled practice and the first of the 5-scheduled qualifiers on today’s timetable, racers waited for the track to dry with the Uruguay – France World Cup game helping to pass the time.  However, with the track drying slowly, the rain returned and with no chance of any meaningful running the ENS organisers call time on the day.

Mike Bellotti wins at Independence Day club race

Mills Pond RC Speedway of Fort Lauderdale, Florida held their Independence Day club race yesterday. At the start of the A-main Daniel got the holeshot while P2 after the qualifiers, Mike Bellotti got cleaned out pretty good, although luck was on his side and still allowed him to get through un-marshaled. Mike was in P2 behind Daniel and Mike buckled down and turned clean laps waiting in the strike zone to make a move. Dan had a bobble allowing Mike to get around him and basically go unchallenged to the end of the main. Last weekend was the first leg of the Border Wars series, an U.S. Southwest 5-race series which hosts races in Colorado, West Texas, and New Mexico. The race was held in several nitro and electric classes and in Open Nitro Buggy it was Sean Guthrie with the TQ from Braxton Morgan on P2. The 30-minute main final then saw Jimmy Deprez, who got a bit beat up at the beginning of the race, taking the win.
