Winter Jumps series finale – Report

The sixth and final round of the Finnish Winter Jumps off-road series was held at Helsinki’s Hupicon fair last weekend. The concrete track was laid out with carpet-clad jumps and the event kicked off on Saturday, starting with the 2WD Buggy class. Some of the fastest drivers were missing due to the EOS held in Germany and the track was really slippery in the morning because there was some kind of dust layer on the concrete but as the qualifying rounds started, the track had developed more traction. Markku Honkanen showed some strong driving in the qualifying rounds and took the pole position for the finals with Jamiel Gabrielsson in 2nd and Lauri Ruotsalainen coming in 3rd.

Tim Wood sweeps BRCA 1/8 IC Track Nats Rd2

Last weekend the second round of the BRCA 1/8th Circuit Championship took place at the Adur circuit on the South Coast. Perhaps the most technical circuit on the calendar, it offers its own unique challenge. Saturday saw a dry day for practice with glorious weather and grip increasing nicely through the day. Sunday saw a round of practice followed by four rounds of qualifying and then finals. Qualifying saw numerous close races, between Tim Wood, Alex Thurston, David Spashett and Neil King. After round 4 it was Tim that took TQ with a new track record, followed by Alex and David. The A-final blasted away, with all ten cars getting away off the line. With the grid being very close on pace, a number of incidents occurred in the first few laps. Tim Wood (Shepherd) led the field from lap one, with close battles all down the field. Neil King (Capricorn) emerged in 2nd after a handful of laps which he never lost, and after a close race John Carr (Shepherd) claimed the final podium position from Jason Frost at the end of the 30 minutes.

Kenny Kong wins at Dog Days of Summer race 2

The recent Dog Days of Summer round 2, hosted by The Track in Gaithersburg, Maryland, was run with a somewhat condensed format of only two qualifiers and a single bump-up A-main. With around 110 entries the traction had really come up between qualifying rounds and especially for the mains, a lot of people would start to have issues with traction rolling. From the tone Kenny Kong (Yokomo) was leading the 4WD Buggy race, however after a troubled opening laps it was Adam Vink (Xray) in 2nd. Adam got right behind Kenny and tried making a pass, but tapped a pipe and didn’t have enough time to catch back up to him. Ultimately it was Kenny in 1st with Adam 2nd and Tekno driver Paul Rush in 3rd. Frank Deiny and Omar Ladenburg would round out the top 5.
