This past weekend Dialed In Raceway of Victorville, California held round one of the Grass Roots series. In the Expert Nitro Buggy class HB Racing’s David Ronnefalk would take the TQ after the qualifiers and he would also come out successful in the 20-minute A-main, leaving JQRacing’s Joseph Quagraine a lap behind in second. HB Racing driver Tyler Brown would round out the podium result in third another lap down.

The MK Eskil club played host to the sixth and final round of the Swedish Electric On-road Nationals this past weekend. The track offered low to medium grip and due to the technical layout low speed grip and consistency was the key to success. In the Touring Modified class already in practice the field was very close in terms of lap times, showing this would be an exciting race. The qualifiers were swept by Andre Fossto who put his Hobbywing-powered Yokomo on the pole position for the triple A-mains with young Rasmus Karlsson (Schumacher/Muchmore) and Fredrik Loikse (Xray/Hobbywing) coming in second and third. The finals were a pretty intense affair with lots of exciting fights and Andre would continue to dominate, taking wins in A1 and A2 to take the overall victory with one leg to spare. Fredrik would come in second thanks to a win in A3 while Rasmus had to settle for third overall.

The International R/C Car Championship, otherwise known as the IRCC Airport Race, will take place from the 2nd to 4th of June at the Chubu International Airport in Japan. The unique event will be held on a temporary carpet track in an event hall near the arrivals section. With the airport having a hotel and restaurants, races won’t need to do much travelling and can in fact access the track by foot. The race will see the running of several on-road classes including Touring Stock, FWD, Modified and Stock 1/12th scale, Formula, World GT and more, with racers from the USA, Korea, Macao and other countries being awaited. The recent round seven of the CWIC Xray Racing Series UK concluded the 2016/17 series and as with the previous rounds the event had a good turn out of racers. In Super Touring the final round of the series seen some top racers attend to challenge for the win, but in keeping with recent rounds Olly Jefferies topped the podium with back to back final wins. Alex Hagberg came in close to take second and Alex Thurston made up the podium.

The first annual Thornhill Cup was recently held at Thornhill Racing Circuit in Hutto, Texas. In the Nitro Buggy A-main Jake Dellinger (Team Associated) would bring home the win from Noah Dickerson (Xray) in second and Tyler Hooks (TLR) third. Rocco Margiota (Xray) and Edwin Hartman (Tekno) would round out the top 5 result.

The first round of the 2017 South-African ORE national championship was held at the Welkom RC Arena, host of the 2018 IFMAR ISTC 1/12th World Championships. It is fair to say that the facility has revived RC racing in South Africa and for the first time in many years there were five Touring Modified mains, a full 1/12th Modified main as well as a full main of 1/12th Stock. In Touring Modified and for the first time in many years over 46 entries ensured competitive racing and the drivers had to be at their best to qualify for the A-mains. The battle for the podium was really hot with great runs from Hein Kotze, Anderton Smith, Antonio Caroli and Ashley Hurley. After missing the first qualifying run it was Hein Kotze who put in great runs in Q2, Q3 and Q4 to secure the TQ spot. Youngster Ashley Hurley improved Alexander Hagberg’s 2016 record to 12.7s and showed that he was a force to be reckoned with by qualifying in 2nd with Antonio Caroli 3rd and Anderton Smith in 4th.

The Latvian 2016/17 Carpet Fights indoor off-road championship recently concluded with the sixth and final round. Overall in the 4WD Buggy class it was Evalds Butans who took this year’s title from vice-champion Ugis Zikmanis and third placed Maris Sprancis. Janis Daubergs and Krisjanis Rolis completed an all-Xray top 5 result.

The opening round of the Italian GT national championship was held at the Il Lombrico track in Milazzo. In the F2 category Andrea Catanzani took the Super Pole after the qualifiers and he would also dominate the 45-minute A-main by coming out some eleven laps in front of second placed Fabio Valente while third placed Mauro Meli ended the day another five laps down in third.
