Smith & Stafford win at EssexCarpetClash Rd4

The fourth encounter of the 6 round EssexCarpetClash took place last weekend in the UK where Round 3 double winner Ben Smith & his Schumacher took the 2WD while the Team Associated of Ellis Stafford took the 4WD honours.  For many it was the first race of the year, with a few looking forward to trying their new equipment they had received from Christmas, with the organisers creating a flowing track with a double jump section and dog leg table top would challenge the drivers.   In 2WD it seemed to be a battle between Smith and Harley Eldridge for the entire day.  Both managed to top the qualifying sheets twice so it came down to the fastest time which was Smith.  Next to line up on the grid for third and fourth would be a fight between Aaron Nash and Oliver Nattress, again joint on points with Nash having the faster time.  Alfie Castle would get to grips with the track after round one putting in some decent times with Billy Fletcher having a very consistent day.  The finals would be a continuation of qualifying and would be a fight on track between Smith and Eldridge.  Smith was able to wrap up the day with two leg wins with Eldridge consistently finishing in the top three.  Aaron Nash was able to secure the bottom step of the podium with two decent leg finishes.

Awesomatix’s Sam Isaacs and Xray’s Alexander Hagberg where the big winners at the annual Hudy Indoor Champs at ProLevel RC in Chesterfield, Missouri – Isaacs winning 1:12 while Hagberg took back to back Touring Car wins.  Attracting 148 entries, qualifying would see Isaacs TQ both classes, topping all four round in 1:12 and 2 of the four in Touring Car.  With team-mate Kemp Anderson lining up P2 in 1:12 and defending Champion Hagberg in third, in the single 8-minute A-Main Anderson would get the front after a rough start by Isaacs.  Leading for half the race, he would be retaken by Isaacs for the win with the podium order being how they qualified.  In Touring Car,  Isaacs would lead for the first half of the race until a mistake rolled his Awesomatix out of contention for the double allowing last year’s double winner Hagberg to take the victory by 1.6-seconds from Anderson with 2023 winner Keven Hebert completing the Top 3.

US Champion Schimmel departs Xray

Reigning ROAR 1:10 2WD Modified Buggy Champion Brennan Schimmel has announced that his short stint with Xray has ended.  One of a number of drivers left without a drive at the end of 2024 after Team Losi Racing cut its race team, the Virgina driver would end the 2024 season winning at the U.S. Carpet Offroad Championships with a borrowed car before being announced as part of Xray’s US Distributor RC America’s alongside new star signing Dakotah Phend, the pair going on to win both titles at the Dirt Nationals at at Hoosier RC Hobbyplex in May.  The 23-year-old announced the end of his run with Xray posting on his social media, ‘A year goes by fast.  2025 was filled with lifelong memories.  I came into this season with no real idea of what was ahead, and it turned into the best year I’ve had in Modified in the few years I’ve been running it.  Becoming a National Modified Champion, along with a few wins and countless podiums, made this season unforgettable. More importantly, my goal going into 2025 was to come out a better person—not just on the track, but off it as well—and I truly believe I did just that.  With that being said, my short time with XRAY has come to a close.  I want to thank Drew Ellis, Brian, John and the rest of RCAmerica/Xray.  Stay tuned for what’s ahead into 2026 and beyond!!’

Coelho retains Asia Touring Car title with dominant finals display

Infinity’s Bruno Coelho has retained his Asia Touring Car Championship title with a dominant display in the finals in Foshan, China.  With this year’s FEMCA organised race attracting a stacked field due to the Hongyu GDC track hosting the World Championships next April, while qualifying produced TQ runs from three different drivers, in the finals the reigning World Champion was untouchable.  His closest challenge would come from Awesomatix’s Lucas Urbain and while the French driver was closer in A2 he never really put Coelho’s title under threat.  Winning A2 to secure the overall victory but feeling his set-up change for A2 wasn’t the right one, Coelho would run A3 going on to win that with the first & only 20-lap run of the weekend.  While Urbain would crash out in A3, Naoto Matsukura fending off Michal Orlowski for P2, he would hold on for second overall while Orlowski completed the podium.  Ryosuke Yamamoto and Pekko Iivonen completed the Top 5 overall ahead of Matsukura and Akio Sobue.  In 13.5 Stock, it was also the Top Qualifier Shin Sawada who took the title.  After a bad start to the finals spinning on lap 1, the Xray driver won A2 & 3 from team-mate Adam Izsay.  Unfortunately the delayed time schedule meant ARC’s A1 winner Enrico Jung had to leave for his flight back to Germany so it was Jan Ratheisky who completed the all Xray podium.
