The second round of 4WD qualifying at the Short Course Showdown Nationwide Tour in Dallas saw Dustin Evans’ domination continue as the factory Losi driver once again topped the time sheets but like in 2WD it is his Q1 run that remains the provisional outright TQ time.

Justin Gilkison wins C.O.R.C. championship

The Canadian Off Road Championship concluded with the last race of the three-race series over the weekend of September 3rd and 4th at Kelowna, B.C. X Factory driver Justin Gilkison made the trip up from Sultan, Washington for the event. The Championship series is three races and Justin was unable to attend the first one, so the pressure was on at Kelowna. He TQed Mod Truck with his mid-motor X-60 and also won the class meaning he could take the championship in just two races.

Evans TQs first 4WD qualifier

Having TQ’d the opening round of 2WD qualifying this morning at the Short Course Showdown Nationwide Tour in Dallas, factory Losi driver Dustin Evans carried his form through to the premiere class putting his TEN-SCTE top of the 4WD time sheets.  The largest grid of the five classes running this weekend at Mikes Hobby Shop, Evans once again displayed why he is one of the top electric off road drivers in the world as he finished a lap up on fellow Losi drivers Josh Glancy and Quincy Hughes.

Record ‘Showdown’ for Short Course in Dallas

It is fair to say that as a sport rc racing has not been great at finding ways to open itself up to new audiences but over in the US one class that is changing all that is Short Course.  As a full size motorsport this form of off road truck racing enjoys huge popularity and TV exposure in America and in a trend started by Traxxas the r/c industry has been able to create a partnership with full size teams that has benefited both the team’s big brand sponsors and more importantly hobby shops across the States who now have a product that the general public can instantly recognise.

Team Orion confirm Elliot Harper signing

Team Orion have officially announced young on-road star Elliot Harper to their growing international team. Elliot who has been two time Worlds finalist, making the podium last year, will use Orion’s ESC, batteries and motors. The Tamiya driver, who has been running the Swiss company’s products for a few months now made the following statement:

I really like using the Team Orion products in my car. They are of high quality and the performance is awesome. The motors have great power and good feeling. The speedo is highly tunable for all conditions and tracks which is ideal, it is an ideal power package.

Casey Peck does the double at Tumbleweed Classic

TLR was out in full force for the 18th annual Tumbleweed Classic hosted by the ARCOR R/C Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In recent years the club has raised enough money to add a separate Nitro only track. This keeps the heavy 1/8th cars off of the super high bite surface of the electric track. A mixture of loamy dirt and 600 pounds of sugar is known for its smooth high traction and 2 ROAR Electric National events. The two separate tracks make for an event that offers a challenge to any driver on the two opposite ends of the race surface spectrum.

Bruno Heremans wins Rd6 of Benelux Championship

The penultimate round of the BeNeLux Championships was run last weekend at Liege, Belgium. X Factory’s Bruno ‘Elvo’ Heremans and Stefan Mesker dominated the event with their X-6 Squareds. Mesker TQ’d the Liege event with Heremans took second on the grid and the pair dominated the three A mains with Elvo taking the first two and Stefan the third to finish 1st and 2nd respectively with Wesley Van Helmond in 3rd. After six of seven rounds, with five to count,  Stefan Mesker leads the Championship one point ahead of Heremans.  Elvo was forced to miss the first race due to a skiing injury, so the pressure is on him to do well in the final race.  Nobody else is within 5 points of Mesker, so Stefan can only lose the Championship if Elvo TQs and wins and Stefan finishes 4th or below.

The 2011 ROAR 1/8 Electric Off-Road Nationals were held September 9-11 at The Hobby Plex in Omaha, Nebraska. Team Orion would show up to this years Nationals with their Super Star 1/8 Team. Ryan Cavalieri just coming off his double World Championship Wins in Finland just 1 month ago. Jared Tebo just taking 2 National Championships at the 1/10 ROAR Nationals a few weeks ago. Mike Truhe, defending ROAR 1/8E National Champion. And Cody King, current 1/8 Nitro World Champion.
