Wilck opens day 2 in Czech Republic with TQ run

ETS championship leader Viktor Wilck has opened Day 2 of the Czech Republic encounter with a TQ run after recording a new fastest time of 16 laps in 5:04.088. The Swede topped the second round of Modified qualifying, reversing the order of yesterday’s opening heat when Rheinard set the pace. The TRF driver said his run was clean and that he was helped by Rheinard and Juho Levanen, who was third fastest, running side by side in the top heat.

Rheinard tops opening Czech qualifier

Rheinard tops opening Czech qualifier

Marc Rheinard has TQ’d the opening round of qualifying here in the Czech Republic. The World Champion set the pace from Tamiya team-mate Viktor Wilck who was 1.6 seconds off his 16 laps in 5:04.492 run.  Having complained that his car felt tweaked in practice, the German moved the battery pack back to its original kit position for the first of the five qualifiers resulting in a much better car.  Although happy to bag the maximum 155 points, Rheinard said he needs to improve the car further as it remains very loose under power.

Drivers full of praise for Czech ETS track

Drivers full of praise for Czech ETS track

Round 3 of the Euro Touring Series is underway here in the Czech Republic and there is nothing but praise coming from the top drivers for the track that has been created by race host Michal Bok and his crew. Drivers are enjoying the challenge of the long and technical track, 19-seconds being the current benchmark lap time. Making his international debut for the Tamiya Racing Factory team it is young Elliot Harper who is setting the early pace in practice. The British driver says the track is really nice and has a good flow to it. Still making small adjustments to his set-up, Harper said overall he is pleased with his car on used tyres but on a fresh set of Xenon tyres both he and his team-mates are struggling.

Having already competed at some regional races in the UK with his new Tamiya, Elliot will make his international debut this weekend at ETS round 3 in Hrotovice, Czech Republic. Elliott had the following to say about his new deal:

I am really looking forward to the 2010 season and running the Tamiya TRF416X. Racing with Tamiya is an exciting opportunity and I feel very fortunate to be part of this established team.  I am looking forward to working closely with some of the best known racers in the World and working together to gain some great results for Tamiya. This is a fantastic learning and developing opportunity for me.  I have already run the package for some races now and its very, very good!  I am really looking forward to the coming races and especially the ETS race this weekend. It will be great fun. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Xray, Juraj, Mario, Martin and the rest of the team for the last two seasons as they have provided me with lots of support and encouragement.

Dennis Fadtke dominates Polish Nats Rd3

The 3rd round of the Polish Touring car Nationals took place last weekend in Tarnow and attracted more than 100 drivers, despite the -24 degree temperatures outside. Inside it was a more acceptable 18 degrees and qualifying would go the way of Dennis Fadtke in both the modified and stock classes. In the mod finals, Fadtke would go on to win ahead of Morris Indovino in 2nd and Paweł Żelazo 3rd, and would do the double by taking the stock win in front of Blazej Orlowski and Maciek Brzozowski.

Bickerstaff claims Irish Touring Car Series Rd1

Bickerstaff claims Irish Touring Car Series Rd1

The opening round of the 2010 Irish Touring Car Series took place in Bangor, Northern Ireland, over the weekend where it was defending Champion Alan Bickerstaff who claimed the win. Attracting a healthy entry, the event saw Bickerstaff put his Novak powered Associated TC5 on pole after a determined TQ run in the final qualifier. The opening Leg of the A-Main saw the Team Associated British Championship team driver lead early on followed by the Tamiya’s of Mark Gilliland and Keith Dempsey but 2 minutes in Bickerstaff came undone as he tried to pass a back marker. This handed Gilliland the race lead but with a minute left on the clock he ‘binned it’ allowing Bickerstaff back through to take the win with Dempsey completing the Top 3. In the second leg Bickerstaff had a straight run through to victory as Gilliland and Dempsey fought over second. Having held second for the early part of the race Dempsey could not hold off Gilliland who eventually found a way passed but it was too late for him to mount a challenge for the win meaning the podium was a reflection of the Top 3 starting order. Having started from the back of the grid John Matthews enjoyed one of his best ever performances to finish fourth overall.

Harper wins first BRCA National for CRC

Harper Wins First BRCA National for CRC

Last weekend the cream of Britains 12th scale racers made the trip down to Devon for round 4 of this years BRCA nationals at Plymouth. The Plymouth club always host a top notch event and as a result the meeting is always well attended despite being a drive of over 4 hours away for many. On Saturday in the stock class Elliott Harper took TQ and went on to comfortable win the A final by more than half a lap. This was the first time that a CRC car had won a UK national. Second went to Chris Kerswell driving a V-Dezign. Chris initially gave chase and attempted to challenge Elliott, but soon realised that he lacked the pace required and settled for a strong second place finish. The battle for 3rd was an intense one with several drivers all holding the position at various points in the race. Mark Stiles eventually came through from 8th on the grid to complete the podium for V-Dezign.
