Richard Lowe dominated 4WD and Truck classes – winning all qualifiers and both finals. Richard couldn’t seem to get it together in 2WD however and after an early challenge by Steve Lawson, it was Mid West driver Phil Sleigh who dominated the last three rounds of qualifying – going on to win the final in style.

F1 RCGP Round 3 report

F1 RCGP Round 3 report

The 3rd round of the Japanese F1 RCGP series was held last weekend at the famous 1/8th GP track, KeiTuen Racing Speedway in Chiba. The unique part of the F1 RCGP is that the race will start in rain or even snowy weather conditions and there was no exceptions for this round. Track conditions was semi wet for the first round and most of the drivers started with rubber tires but apparently sponge tires were a better choice. Heavy rain started falling after lunch break and some drivers spread glue on the sponge tires surface which works pretty well. To win this round not only driving technique but right tire choice is extremely important. In the F1 GP class it was Miura Masayuki starting from 2nd who was in a different league managing to have a safe lead over 2nd placed Ishikawa Mamoru, who never got a chance to put any pressure on the leader. Yashima Sadaaki beat National off road champion Kimura Shinya to secure his 3rd place.

In the 1/12th scale modified class there were some very fast drivers in attendance such as Alexander Andersson, Mikael Fransson and Per-Ola Hård and in qualifying it was Alexander Andersson that took the TQ ahead of Per-Ola Hård in 2nd and Mikael Fransson in 3rd. Moore goes fastest in Warsaw

Moore goes fastest in Warsaw

Former World Champion Andy Moore put in a great second qualifier here in Warsaw to go fastest overall bettering the Round 1 TQ time set by the current World Champion Marc Rheinard.  A widening of the front track width transformed the Englishman’s Hot Bodies allowing him to go top of the overall times as he knocked 3.3 seconds off the previous TQ pace. It was a close fought round between Rheinard and Moore but the German had to deal with the front of his bodyshell, run for the first time in this heat, catching on the carpet.  Despite this the Tamiya ace was also able to improve on his opening TQ time by 7/10th.
