3 in a row – Coelho lifts ETS title with Apeldoorn win

Bruno Coelho has retained his Yokomo Euro Touring Series title claiming the championship for the third year in succession with victory on his debut at the Apeldoorn track in the Netherlands.  Top Qualifier for the fourth time this season, the Xray driver added the third win of his campaign in A3 after the early demise of his main challenger all weekend Ronald Volker.  With both having a win each from the opening two A-Mains, Volker pushed hard but it was to be too much and he rolled his Yokomo over the curbing coming onto the main straight on the first run through.  This left team-mate & third place starter Christopher Krapp to take up the challenge but despite a good effort of getting the Portuguese driver in touch the German couldn’t mount an attack.  With Volker setting a new track record as he finished out A3 finishing it in 9th, his early results would still give him second with Krapp joining him on the podium.  Volker’s best result this season, it was a good weekend for the Yokomo team with Yannic Prumper finishing fourth but once again it was Coelho who was the benchmark.

Czech 1/10th Off-road Nationals Rd3 – Report

The third round of the Czech 1/10th Off-road Nationals took place last weekend at the Rychvald astro turf track in the Czech Republic. After races on carpet and dirt this was the third different track surface for the championship so far. Friday’s free practice would be held in good weather conditions but overnight rain would flood the track on Saturday morning and many racers thought the race would be cancelled. However most drivers voted to carry on with racing and the local club did a great job in preparing the track to be at least possible to drive on. In the 2WD class Kaja Novotny used his spare dirt spec buggy which was the jackpot as he was able to lap almost the whole field in each qualifying run.

Grainer doubles at Slovakian 1/10 Buggy Nats Rd2

The second round of the Slovakian 1/10 Off-road Nationals was held at the totally rebuild RC-Comorra race track in Kamorno. The track now offers a very entertaining layout with some tight passages and corner but also some fast passages while the surface was slippery as you can expect to it from a dirt track. In 2WD Buggy Yokomo’s Lucas Grainer could take the TQ and he was leading in the finals to take the day’s win from Roman Pavlus and Michal Nagy (Xray).

Coelho leads processional A2

After his body drama in A1, Bruno Coelho took a straight forward win of a processional second A-Main at the ETS in Apeldoorn.  The Top Qualifier came under pressure from A1 winner Ronald Volker over the opening laps but seeing off the German, the Xray driver opened a convincing gap to win by 2-seconds.  Behind, Christopher Krapp would complete the Top 3 a further 1.2 seconds back with the Top 5 finishing in the order they started.  The highest place mover would be A1 3rd place finisher Naoto Matsukura who gained once place to finish 6th.

Volker wins A1 at Apeldoorn

Ronald Volker has won the opening A1 at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Apeldoorn.  Starting from second on the grid, the Yokomo driver was handed the lead when Top Qualifier Bruno Coelho suffered a spin as the result of a body tuck. While the Xray driver would later run over the curbing to release the body it tucked again and he eventually crossed the line 7th.  With Christopher Krapp also moving up a spot as a result of Coelho’s problems to finish second, the big mover of the race was Naoto Matsukura.  Starting 7th he would complete the Top 3 ahead of Yannic Prumper.

Coelho on pole at ETS Netherlands

Bruno Coelho will start on pole for tomorrow’s Yokomo Euro Touring Series fifth round at Apeldoorn, the Xray driver’s fourth TQ of the season moving him to within touching distance of his third consecutive ETS title.  Having convincingly set the pace in controlled practice yesterday, Coelho got the day of to the perfect start by taking the opening qualifier but he couldn’t keep his car on the track in Q2 & 3.  This allowed Ronald Volker to TQ the second and Christopher Krapp to top Q3 meaning it would all come down to the fourth & final qualifier.  Initially it was Volker who set the pace but Naoto Matsukura now had a quick car going to the top of the timing screens but all the time Coelho was getting into his rhythm conscious he couldn’t afford another roll.  While Volker would push him hard, in the end Coelho’s earlier form was back and he completed the 5-minutes well clear with Nicholas Lee coming through for a P2 run ahead of Matsukura and Volker, who will line up 2nd tomorrow.  In what has been a strong weekend for Yokomo, Christopher Krapp will start 3rd with team-mate Yannick Prumper fourth. With Coelho’s TQ eliminating team-mate Alexander Hagberg from the title fight, now only Marc Rheinard remains but he must win tomorrow which is looking like a tall order from 5th on the grid.
