Infinity Prostock Challenge finale – Report

Last weekend the TRAP RC Venue in Pretoria, South Africa hosted the final round of the Infinity Prostock Challenge. In the Touring Modified class it was Miguel Haasbroek (Infinity) who had a strong run in qualifying to secure the overall TQ. However Jason Hillcoat (Infinity) made a few small adjustments after qualifying which Miguel had no answer to, and Jason secured the win and with it a 2nd overall for the series. John Steyn (Tamiya) stepped onto the podium for the 3rd spot on the day. Overall winner of the Modified Series went to Hein Kotze (Xray) which was secured already after round 2.

Caleb Stevens wins Extreme R/C club race

Extreme R/C Raceway of Spring Hill, Tennessee recently held a club race in preparation of the forthcoming Extreme Carpet Initiative race in two weeks time. Caleb Stevens was in control of things in the 2WD Modified and 4WD Modified classes as he took the TQs and wins for a clean sweep. Christopher Small and Scott Anderson would end the 2WD Mod race in 2nd and 3rd respectively while Scott Anderson and Steven Hicox made up the top 3 in 4WD Mod Buggy.

Xray Racing Series Slovenia Rd4 – Report

The recent fourth round of the Xray Racing Series Slovenia was held at the Genius Ring in Medeuzza, Italy. Since this was the final round of the series drivers made full use of Saturday’s practice in order to fine-tune their cars for Sunday’s race. The Touring Stock class saw some great battles between B.A. and Andrea as they touched a couple of times in the opening A-main and B.A. had to wait for Andrea which promoted Edoardo into the lead. In the second leg B.A. managed to somehow overtake Andrea to take the win and shift the decision for the overall win into the final A-main. Andrea was leading A3 in the opening stages but he suffered a technical issue with a motor connector coming loose, allowing B.A. to take the overall from Edoardo 2nd and Andrea 3rd.

Xray Racing Series Greece Rd2 – Report

Round 2 of the Xray Racing Series Greece was held recently at the Fanatix Racing Track and in Touring Modified it was Papachristos who took the pole position with some swift lap times. In leg 1 of the A-mains Papachristos took the win by just two tenths over Ioannidis. In leg 2 he won again with a 5 second gap over Nikolakopoulos while Ioannidis suffered from worn belt and a DNF. Finally in leg 3, Ioannidis passed Papachristos after a mistake the latter made and he lapped everybody finishing 1st in the last leg for the overall runner-up spot with Nikolakopoulos finishing 3rd, securing P3 overall.

Gomes & Ribeiro win at Portuguese Off-road Cup

The Portuguese 1/10th Off-road Cup was held recently at the Indoor RC Oeste track near Lisbon and in the 2WD Buggy class it was young Pedro Gomes (Xray) with the TQ and win, wrapping up his first major title. Joao Figueiredo (Kyosho) came in 2nd after some good fights with Pedro while Rui Rodrigues (Team Associated) rounded out the top 3 podium result. In the 4WD class it was Nuno Casal Ribeiro (Team Associated) with the TQ and win from Pedro Gomes (Xray) 2nd and Hugo Miguel (Team Durango) 3rd.

SARDA on-road championship Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the 2018 South-African ORE national championship was hosted by the TRAP RC Venue in Pretoria. There is great excitement within the South African RC family with the 2018 IFMAR Worlds being hosted in Welkom later in the year. There were two practice and a pre-nationals events hosted before the nationals and all the top drivers were practising hard to fine tune the setups in hot weather conditions with the track reaching temperatures of up to 67 degrees and offering a very fast layout. In Touring Modified the qualification was a tight affair with Hein Kotze winning Q1, Jacques Liebenberg winning Q2 and Conrad Liebenberg winning Q3. Ultimately it was Hein Kotze who managed to win Q4 to secure the overall TQ.

Scottish GT12 Regionals Rd2 – Report

The second round of the BRCA Scottish GT12 regionals 2018 was hosted by Grampian Radio Car club. The Grampian club has the biggest track in the series measuring 22m by 12m and laid out a fast track with laptimes in the low 9 seconds available for the fastest drivers. A great turnout of 23 GT12, six TC and one Formula car gave a great atmosphere in the pits and great racing on the track. Round one’s winner Andrew Edwards set an early pace and took the lead in the first three rounds of qualifying. However it was John Simpson, currently third in the championship and overall winner for the last two years who secured pole in round 4 by two seconds. Kenneth Rogers, currently second in the championship completed the top three. The A final was completed by consistently fast Graeme Dick, Dave Bruce and first time A finalist Matthew Archer finding some speed.

2018 The Dirt Nitro Challenge – Report

Every year, the best nitro 1/8th scale racers make the trip to the Fear Farm to participate in the biggest 1/8th scale race in the world, The Dirt Nitro Challenge. With over 750 entries for just the 1/8th scale side of the event, the best of the best battle it out over five intense days to set up for the exciting 45-minute A-main events in Nitro Truggy and Buggy and a single 10-minute thriller in E-Buggy. With so many cars on the track plus the hot, dry Phoenix Arizona sun beating on the track for the majority of the day, it’s hard to keep the track consistent and smooth for the entire event. Knowing that beforehand, Joey Christensen and The Dirt crew leave the track as is creating a track surface that evolves and gets more challenging as the event goes deeper into the program. This year, the layout was fantastic. Many racers of all skill level praised the layout for its wonderful flow and challenging obstacles that seamlessly intertwined into the next. Mix in the changing track conditions, getting around at full speed was not easy by any means – hence the name The Dirt Nitro Challenge and why the race is so popular among racers.
