29th April Fool’s Classic – Report

The April Fool’s Classic has a deep history in the world of R/C off-road racing. Known as R/C’s 2nd longest running race and the premier race in Utah, over the years it has attracted some of the industry’s best drivers to compete on a high-bite, clay track better known as Intermountain R/C Raceway. Last weekend IRCR hosted the 29th Annual April Fool’s Classic and since the new ownership under Murfdog, has seen a significant resurgence of a genuine classic. The grip is always high at IRCR and by the mains, the fastest tires are ghost pins or slicks in the rear with low tread up front. With that kind of bite, navigating the flowy layout filled with technical elevated corners and jumps wasn’t an easy feat. Perhaps the hardest part on the track was the big triple that landed into a 180-degree turn coming onto the straightaway. The more precise you could land the jump while still maintaining a tight line and corner speed, the more time you could shave off your lap.

Alex Thurston wins at BRCA 1/8th Track Nats Rd1

The opening round of the BRCA 1/8th Track National Championship was held at the Cotswolds circuit situated on Kemble airfield. Saturday was rained out mainly and on Sunday morning the track had the odd damp patch on it due to a sprinkle of rain during the night. Once qualifying got underway it was Alex Thurston who was the man to beat, taking the TQ after the qualifiers and he would also bring home the win from teammate Joe Hawnt in second and Franck Dambrine in third.

Russian Grand Prix 2017 – Announcement

The Russian Grand Prix 2017 will be held from the 14th to 16th of April at the Hobby Exhibition in Moscow, Russia. The 3-day event will be held in 1/10th 2WD and 4WD Buggy, Stadium Truck, 2WD and 4WD Short Course as well as 1/8th E-Buggy and 1/18th Monster Truck classes with over 150 driver from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus having already signed in for the event. 3rd Annual Thumb RC Mini Nationals – Report

The recent 3rd Annual Thumb RC Mini Nationals was hosted by ROVE and in the 1/14 Buggy class Team LC Racing USA driver Jeff Hutchinson had a good battle with John Taz Motors. After the eight minute A-main was over, Jeff finished with a two lap lead on the field. Taz came home in second with his Losi Mini Eight. Sven took third and finished on the same lap as Taz. Ben Klein running a Caster Racing S16B took fourth and Steven Motors fifth.

Yokomo sign Bartek Zambrzycki to their factory team

Yokomo have announced the signing of reigning Polish 2WD and 4WD Buggy National Champion, Bartek Zambrzycki to their factory team. The Polish frontrunner, who grew up racing Yokomo cars at events such as the ETS and EOS, will receive full factory support in his forthcoming campaign that will see appearances at national and international on-road and off-road events including as the ETS, EOS and the World Championships. Bartek had the following to say about the deal:

I am very happy continuing my RC adventure with Team Yokomo as factory team driver. Being part of such a great team of worlds finest RC pilots is very special to me. But it is not all. It is also to be part of the team of extraordinary people – my friends. I look forward to an exciting future, together with the Team Yokomo. Alexander Landen crowned WBC Cup 4WD champion

The penultimate round of the Swedish WBC Cup was held at the IRC Arena in Atvidaberg and hosted by the MSK Kvarnvingarna club. 4WD Buggy Championship leader, Aleander Landen would be the pre-event favourite but a stiff competition meant he only qualified on the 6th spot. After some great battles on the tight track, that made overtaking hard, he was crowned the overall champion though with Hampus Berg coming second and Elias Johansson third.

Kevin Thomas wins at Super Seven Series

Thunder Alley Raceway in North Carolina recently held a round of the Super Seven Series and in the 1/8th E-Buggy class it was Kevin Thomas who walked away with the win. After two rounds of qualifying, Kevin found himself second on the pole after narrowly edging out the third place driver by a tenth of a second and in the main, Kevin was able to get away cleanly and found himself in the lead for several laps. A miscue briefly dropped him to third but he was able to jump back up to second and eventually regain the lead where he would ultimately finish. Sean Kochik would come in second while Scott Belus rounded out the podium result.

Carlos Duraes wins at Portuguese Buggy opener

The recent opening round of the Portuguese 1/8th Buggy National Championship saw Carlos Duraes walking away with the win in the 1/8th E-Buggy class. Carlos would win the first and second A-main from a hard-charging Ricardo Monteiro to grab the overall win with one leg to spare. Ricardo would grab the overall runner-up spit while Joao Figueirdo completed the top 3 result thanks to a win in the final A-main.
