Simon Kurzbuch will start on pole position for tomorrow’s third round of the Euro Nitro Series, the Shepherd driver claiming the honour of Top Qualifier for a second time this season when he made it three TQ runs in a row in the third of the five qualifiers.  Having set the pace yesterday at the unique Aigen track up in the hills of northern Austria there was no let up in the advantage the World Champion has over his rivals when qualifying started, although in Q4 reigning champion Dario Balestri did close the gap benefiting too from traffic to post his first TQ run.  Balestri would also take the final qualifier, Kurzbuch crashing out while on for another TQ round.  Robert Pietsch continued to shadow Kurzbuch and Balestri posting the 3rd fastest time in the opening four qualifiers.

World Champions head ENS Austria entry

ENS_Aigen

After a two & a half month break, the Euro Nitro Series resumes with the third round taking drivers to Austria this weekend (September 2-4).  With the World’s biggest prize keeping them occupied during the break, it is newly crowned Nitro Touring Car World Champion Dominic Greiner who leads the 1:10 entry while 1:8 World Champion Simon Kurzbuch heads the 1:8 field for the championship’s 3rd visit to the Aigen track.  With the race marking the start of the second half of the season, the weekend could be crucial to deciding the 1:8 title but with 1:10 having produced two different winners so far it is an opportunity for more drivers to join the race to become champion.

2 out 2 as Kurzbuch dominates ENS Germany

2 out 2 as Kurzbuch dominates ENS Germany

Simon Kurzbuch made it two out of two in this season’s Euro Nitro Series with a dominant drive at Round 2 in Germany.  Top Qualifier at Minidrom Ettlingen, topping both rounds of qualifying that could be completed in-between the rain on Saturday, the Shepherd driver put in a text book performance in the 45-minute main to win by over a lap.  With last year’s winner Dario Balestri, who qualified 2nd expected to at least make the World Champion work for the win, that challenge lasted only 2-minutes as the Capricorn driver shed a front wheel.  This left Bruno Coelho to provide chase but the Xray driver would make a mistake leaving Kurzbuch to cruise home for an extensive lead in the championship standing.  One-lap down, a great drive from Toni Gruber would see the ARC driver finish second to claim his first ever ENS podium having seen off the challenge of Alberto Picco.  Crossing the line 3rd, Picco’s Mugen would fail post race scrutiny, the tank deemed to big, which promoted Capricorn’s Robin D’hondt up a spot to compete the podium.
