Mack & Greiner take 3rd Qualifier at ENS

Overnight TQ holder Oliver Mack moved a step closer to the overall TQ for Round 2 of the Euro Nitro Series in Austria as he again topped the times in the third of the four qualifiers.  Another wet day at the Aigen track, the Shepherd driver was fastest from Mugen’s Robert Pietsch with BMT’s Daniele Ielasi completing the Top 3.  In 1:10, only a hand full of drivers took to the wet track with Serpent’s Dominic Greiner in a completely different class running almost a full lap more than the Shepherd of Leonardo Varga with Q2 pace setter Dirk Wischnewski 3rd.

Team Shepherd's Mack & Wischnewski take Q2 at ENS

Team Shepherd concluded Day 1 of qualifying at the Euro Nitro Series at Aigen, Austria, with a double as their drivers Oliver Mack and Dirk Wischnewski TQ’d Q2 of their respective classes.  Having just missed out in Q1 to Serpent’s Michael Salven, Mack would take the second qualifier of the rain effected event in a more convincing manner finishing 3.4 seconds faster than Xray’s John Ermen.  Behind the German it was very close with Ermen, Salven and BMT’s Daniele Ielasi separated by just 3/10ths.  In 1:10 Wischnewski topped the time sheets on a much drier track by .177 from Q1 pace setter and chassis team-mate Francesco Tironi with Serpent’s Dominic Greiner completing the Top 3.

Salven takes first 1:8 qualifier in Austria

Michael Salven claimed the TQ for the opening 1:8 qualifier at the Euro Nitro Series in Aigen, Austria. The Serpent driver narrowly outpaced the Shepherd of Oliver Mack on the damp track by 0.248 with Mugen’s Robert Pietsch completing an all German Top 3.  Mirko Salemi was the fastest non-German, the Italian taking his BP Racing chassis to the fourth fastest time ahead of Austria’s Michael Klausner and Dutch Xray driver John Ermen.

Tironi tops wet Q1 at Euro Nitro Series

Having cancelled Day 1 of the event yesterday due to rain, qualifying finally got underway at Round 2 of the new Euro Nitro Series in Aigen, Austria, with Shepherd’s Francesco Tironi taking Q1 ahead of Serpent’s Dominic Greiner and Round 1 race winner Eric Dankel. Tyres was very much the name of the game on the wet track, a set of soft Matrix tyres giving Tironi a distinct advantage, the Italian also recording the fastest lap of 21.287 which was half a second faster than that of Greiner.

Rain forces cancellation of ENS Day 1

The organisers of the Euro Nitro Series have opted to cancel Day 1 of the second round of the championship in Aigen, Austria, due to rain. A dry but cold track greeted drivers this morning but just after the 1:8 drivers took to the track for the first of their rounds of open practice, the 1:10 racers having got to complete their run, the first shower of the day arrived. Waiting to let the rain pass the weather was to further deteriorate with the Race Director making the call at lunch time to cancel today’s programme and give racers the time to prepare wet cars for tomorrow. With most of the racers having enjoyed plenty of dry running yesterday, Day 2 will start irrespective of it being a wet or dry track with the first of four rounds of qualifying. The track remains open today for an drivers wishing to get in some wet practice but the majority of racers are retiring to their hotels.

Collari confirmed for ENS Round 2 in Austria

1:8 Onroad legend Lamberto Collari has confirmed his entry for Round 2 of the Euro Nitro Series which takes place in Austria over the weekend of May 16-18. The winner of the opening round of the all new nitro onroad championship last month in Melzo, Italy, the 9-time World Champion is one of a number of top Italian drivers who will travel to the Aigen track in Northern Austria. Also confirmed from Italy for the second event of the four events that make up the inaugural ENS race calendar are 2-time 1:10 European Champion Dario Balestri (Capricorn), 1:10 World Championship podium finisher Francesco Tironi (Shepherd), Round 1 1:8 A-Finalist Andrea Pirani (WRC) and former Euro B Champion Mirko Salemi (BP Racing).

Collari wins intense opening ENS encounter

Lamberto Collari has won the opening round of the all new Euro Nitro Series.  The Italian legend won from fellow former World Champion Robert Pietsch by just 1.5 seconds after 45-minutes of super close racing,  a late and hard pass by the 9-time World Champion on the Top Qualifier deciding the intense race.  The podium for the Italian event, held at the spectacular Melzo track, was completed by two time World Championship finalist Simon Kurzbuch, it being a good event for Swiss drivers with another Worlds finalist Silvio Hachler finishing fourth having started 10th on the world class grid.

Balestri fastest in first ENS practice

Dario Balestri has set the pace in the first 1:10 200mm timed practice at the opening round of the all new Euro Nitro Series in Melzo, Italy. The factory Capricorn driver ran the fastest 3-consecutive laps of the Mini Racing Ayrton Senna track over the 6-minute session to head HB’s Teemu Leino by .097 of a second.  Behind the two well known racers Xray driver Luca Redaelli was 3rd fastest as the Top 5 was filled by cars from 5 different manufacturers, Shepherd’s Dirk Wischnewski fourth fastest and Dominic Greiner’s Serpent 5th.
