Berntsen takes A1 in Gran Canaria

Berntsen takes A1 in Gran Canaria

Team Xray’s Adrian Berntsen has won the opening A-Main of the Ride Modified class this morning in Gran Canaria.  Qualifying second for the third round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series, the Norwegian had the lead at the start of the race as Top Qualifier Ronald Volker spun out as the cars left the grid and once in front the 20 year-old would controlled the race from start to finish.  Behind Berntsen, HB’s Andy Moore would finish second but only after Kyosho’s Christopher Krapp, who passed the former World Champion coming into the straight on the last lap, went into the final corner too hard knocking the battery from his car just before the loop.  Lucky for Krapp only the top three cars crossed the loop a lap earlier just ahead of the 5-minutes so he was able to come away with third.  Volker would only finish 10th.

New surface challenges drivers in Gran Canaria

Track issues surface in Gran Canaria

Round 3 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series got underway officially today in Gran Canaria but recent work to the track has challenged drivers as they struggle for traction on the highly abrasive new surface.  Originally drivers where to run open practice for the first half of the day before conducting two control practice rounds that would determine the seeding for the day’s opening round of qualifying. However when drivers started to run tyres from the freshly produced batch of handout tyres provided by Ride there was a noticeable difference between the tyres they had used for previous practice runs, some drivers having already conducted a number of days testing earlier in the week.  Due to this Race Director Scotty Ernst adapted the time table allowing drivers to continue with open practice before closing the first official day with one round of controlled practice.

New surface awaits ETS in Gran Canaria

This weekend (28 Feb-2 March) the Yokomo Euro Touring Series heads to Gran Canaria where a freshly resurfaced track awaits competitors travelling to the Spanish holiday island for the third round of the championship.
