Leino opens Day 2 of qualifying with TQ run

Leino opens Day 2 of qualifying with TQ run

Having ended the first day of qualifying at the 200mm World Championships yesterday with a TQ run in Q3, Teemo Leino picked up where he left off by becoming the first & so far only driver to run 22 laps of the Huge RC Circuit to top the fourth round.  The HB driver set the pace over the Xray of Nicholas Lee with Serpent’s Tadahiko Sahashi and Dominic Greiner completing the Top 4.  For overnight TQ holder Alexander Hagberg a traction roll would break his Xray while he was on top of the timing screens in his heat.  After a disastrous day yesterday defending champion Meen Vejrak final managed a Top 10 run taking his KM to the 9th fastest time but the same couldn’t be said for Dario Balestri, the Capricorn driver again unable to go the full 5-minutes, again running out of fuel.

Leino takes 3rd qualifier at 200mm Worlds

After two difficult opening qualifiers, top seed Teemu Leino managed to put together a clean 5-minutes to TQ the third round of qualifying at the 200mm World Championships in Thailand.  Top Qualifier of the previous Worlds, which also took place in the city of Bangkok, the HB driver topped the round ahead of the Serpent’s of Dominic Greiner and the Sahashi brother’s Yuya and Tadahiko.  Fastest in the opening two rounds, Xray’s Alexander Hagberg would end the day with a fourth for the round with the evening conditions not suiting his NT1.

Hagberg TQ’s again in Q2

Hagberg TQ's again in Q2

Having taken a surprise TQ in the opening round of qualifying at the 200mm World Championships, Alexander Hagberg showed it was on merit as he again topped the times in the day’s second round of qualifying.  Despite the warmer conditions of Q2, the Team Xray driver set an almost identical time to his morning pace being just 0.123 slower over the 5-minutes.  Running in the same heat, Mugen driver Jeff Hammon would be closest to the Swede 1.9 seconds off with Mark Green again fastest in the top seeded heat to complete the Top 3.  Again the round was a troubled one for a number of potential contenders for the 6th running of the championships with defending WC Meen Vejrak again making a mistake late in his heat which would leave him 22nd.  Top seed after practice Teemu Leino would roll his HB, suffering an engine cut as a consequence while Capricorn’s Dario Balestri would retire with engine problems after his car stopped just before the 3-minute mark.

2014 Time Zone II GP – Race Report

2014 Time Zone II GP – Race Report

The Timezone II Grand Prix was held at La Center, Washington last weekend and has to be one of the “funnest” indoor on-road races of the year. With 120 entries and the fact that most of racers being longtime friends, the shenanigans were out of control. With a bag full of bananas, special guest and world famous announcer, Charlie Suangka, delighted the audience with his comedic style all throughout the weekend. Another guest fresh off his 2nd place finished at the IIC in 1/12 modified and his win 13.5 TC in Vegas, was non-other than Team Associated’s Keven Hebert making the long journey from Quebec, Canada. Also, on hand to race as well as assist Keven was Team Associated’s engineer Bob Stellflue. Another great driver making the journey from New Mexico was Max Kuenning, who just won the World GT class at the IIC in Vegas.

Hagberg TQs opening qualifier in Thailand

Hagberg TQs opening qualifier in Thailand

Alexander Hagberg took a somewhat surprise TQ run in the opening qualifier of the 200mm World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, the round seeing all of the Top 10 from practice having difficult runs.  Running in the second fastest heat having been 11th in practice, the Xray driver set the fastest 5-minute time by just under a second from the Serpents of Dominic Greiner and Tadahiko Sahashi, the Top 6 for Q1 all running in the same group.  An incident filled top heat would go to Mark Green but suffering a body tuck after contact with Teemu Leino, the Serpent driver’s time would only be good enough for 11th.  The top seed for qualifying having topped timed practice, Leino would end up 13th.  Defending Champion Meen Vejrak would roll his KM resulting in tyre damage that left him struggle to 36th.

Martin Harrison triples at Southern Indoor Champs

Martin Harrison triples at Southern Indoor Champs

The 2014 Southern Indoor Championship took place at Autaugaville, Alabama this past weekend. The schedule was Friday practice, Saturday 4 rounds of qualifying with qual points and triple A mains on Sunday. Qualifying went well for Martin Harrison, he was able to TQ Pro4 SCT and E-Truggy. E-Buggy was more difficult to be as consistent but as the dust settled Martin was able to secure the 2nd spot on the grid. The last of the 4 rounds was a good indication of what the track would be like for the up and coming triple A mains. The track began to break down and make your line selection important.

2014 Maritime Off Road Wars – Report

2014 Maritime Off Road Wars – Report

This weekend was the 2014 edition of the ever popular Maritime Off Road Wars. The event has created quite a following over the years with Ian Knight and his team running a great race program and laying, as ever, an excellent track. The track was very fast paced, with plenty of well profiled jumps to keep the drivers entertained and the racing close. The format would see 2WD run on Saturday and 4WD the following day. One round of practice, four rounds of qualifying and then three leg A finals would decide the winner. Unusually it would be FTD qualifying, a novelty to most drivers now used to the round by round format currently used, but a welcome change that requires a slightly different approach to the day.
