HNMC Rock Crawling Grand Opening – Report

The Herts Nitro Model Club held their Rock Crawling Grand Opening recently and despite the terrible weather, snow blowing in the wind with sub-zero temperatures, the club had throughout the day 25 to 30 die-hard rock crawlers and scalers in attendance. After long discussions over the last few years about building a rock crawling course, John Geaves at the end of 2017 said he would take the lead on this project. John had been to the Fairlop Rock Crawling course and enlisted the help of their course builder, Neil Smith. The plan was to cater for Rock Crawlers and Scale Crawlers. Materials landed on site and John and Neil set at a rate of knots building the course and within a couple of months it started to look impressive. Then with the help of CML Distribution, Herts RC Models and Logic RC the date for a grand opening was set. HNMC would like to say thank you to Jason Huntley from CML Distribution and Stewart Wilcox from Logic RC who provided demos all day. Also a big thank you to CML Distribution and Logic RC for their ongoing support. The club looks forward to more crawler open days and improving the course and if it becomes popular extending it further. For further information you can contact HNMC at info@HNMC.co.uk.

Carlos Guerra sweeps Bolivian Nats Rd1

The opening round of the Bolivian 1/8th Off-road Nationals was held in La Paz this past weekend. Due to the location of the track, high above sea level, engine tuning was very difficult for the nitro drivers as were the weather conditions with rain making for a muddy track at times. In the end it was Carlos Guerra who made the best out of the conditions to bring home the win in the Nitro Buggy class from Bryan Bohrt 2nd and Jorge Zamora 3rd, making it an all JQ Racing top 3. Over in E-Buggy it was again Carlos Guerra with the win as Jorge Zamora and Wilson Cuellar rounded out the top 3 results for another JQ Racing 1-2-3 finish.

Simon Reeves wins icy HNMC Winter Series Rd12

With snow covering most of the UK the Herts Nitro venue was lucky and only received a light dust so the team were able to get the track cleared and ready to race round 12 of this season’s Winter Series. Only 26 diehard racers braved the sub-zero temperatures and all had an enjoyable but cold day. Qualifying was dominated by Simon Reeves with Dylan Saunders not far behind. With only two finals the finals would be a pit lane start as the straight was the only part of the track which was soft and in the end it was Simon Reeves with the A-main win from Dylan Saunders 2nd and Steve Johnson 3rd. The opening round of the HNMC Summer Series will be held on the 1st of April.

Thanks to Jim Thompson for the report.

Ryan Lutz clean sweep at 2018 SIGP

Ryan Lutz has taken an expected win in the 1/8th nitro buggy class in Xiamen China, but he didn’t have it all his own way. Looking at the results one would think the race was a procession but at various stages of the 1 hour main there was plenty of excitement at the front of the field. Yusuke Suguira looked to have the faster car throughout the race, especially in the early part, but too many mistakes meant he couldn’t capitalise, while in their own league, behind the leading pair Kaja Novotny took home 3rd after a long and exciting battle with Wataru Takashiro who ended up just off the podium in 4th.

Essex Winter Series Rd5 – Report

The final round of the 2017/18 Essex Winter Series took place this weekend. As the UK was affected by another freezing and snow-filled weekend, it was great to see another almost capacity entry to round out a busy year, which was also bolstered by a “guest heat” of the popular Tamiya Trucks. With the Modified title already decided, Olly Jefferies decided to sit out this round, but still was trackside to cheer on his team and help them out for the finals. It was therefore Elliott Harper, who already had one hand firmly on the championship runner-up trophy, who got proceedings underway by topping the first two rounds of qualifying for Schumacher. Alexander Hagberg, who took his first ever EWS win at the previous event, was close to Elliott but had to settle for 2nd each time. The fight for third was much closer, however, with the top five in Q1 being filled out by the Yokomo of new Maclan signing Harley Eldridge, Team Associated’s Chris Grainger, and the Schumacher of former series champion Stefan Chodzynski. The second qualifier saw Matt White take 3rd for Associated, in front of Harley and Stefan.
