Nejc Mihelic wins Austrian National Championship

Nejc Mihelic wins Austrian National Championship

Last weekend’s Austrian Nitro On-road National Championship was held at the Salzburg track. The weekend started off dry, cold and partially cloudy and the decision was made to run two qualifying rounds on Saturday as the weather forecast for Sunday wasn’t promising. Unfortunately the remaining rounds on Sunday morning would be held on a wet track and it was Nejc Mihelic (ARC) who made the best out of the conditions as the took the TQ from Herfried Pucher (ARC) in second and Alan Levy (Serpent) in third. The wet final then saw a great fight between the two ARC drivers with both having minor problems but it was Nejc who held the upper hand as he was able to grab the win from Herfried while Alain rounded out the podium in third.

Aaron Stringer wraps up QLD Inter Club Series

Aaron Stringer wraps up QLD Inter Club Series

The SE QLD Inter Club Series concluded with the sixth and final round held at Meakin Park in Brisbane. In total over 300 drivers attended the series that was held over a six month period, visiting three clubs twice each over the event. Aaron Stringer was leading the series and he only needed to make the A-Main and finish in the top 5 to wrap up the title. Qualifying for the pre-event favourite did not go to plan at all and saw him finish in 30th place. Starting 9th in the C-final Aaron would move his way up through the lower finals and ultimately ended on the 11 spot for the A-final in which he had a blinder of a start and was up to around 6th place after lap 1. The job got much tougher after that and took another 10 minutes or so to round up the next five places. After that it was a battle between Aaron and Darren Perry. Aaron managed to reduce the lead down to under two seconds with about two minutes to go, but it wasn’t to be and Darren took the win with Aaron in second. The runner-up spot was then enough for Aaron to grab the overall title from Darren Perry in second and Sam Perry in third.

Kurzbuch wins but Balestri claims ENS title

Kurzbuch wins but Balestri claims ENS title

Simon Kurzbuch won the fourth & final round of the Euro Nitro Series, but second behind the Shepherd driver in Italy was enough for Capricorn’s Dario Balestri to deny the season’s only double winner from retaining the title he won last year at the Mini Autodromo Jody Scheckter track. Starting second behind Top Qualifier Balestri, Kurzbuch would drive the ‘near perfect race’ coming out on top of a thrilling mid race battle between the two world class 1:8 drivers.  Knowing even if Kurzbuch took the win Balestri would see out the 45-minute final in a controlled fashion finishing 5-seconds behind his Main title rival while the other title contender Robert Pietsch finished a distant 5th after an early incident with last year’s race winner Lamberto Collari.  Starting from 12th on the grid having bumped up from the B-Main Alberto Picco would completed the race podium in Fiorano.

Groskamp & HB claim ENS title

Groskamp & HB claim ENS title

Jilles Groskamp and HB are the new Euro Nitro Series Champions after a thrilling final at the concluding round in Fiorano, Italy.  With four drivers in contention for the title, Groskamp starting behind his rivals after a tough qualifying, the Dutch racer drove a near perfect strategy only being denied his first win of the season on the penultimate lap by Alessio Mazzeo.  Still with his rivals having issues,  the fourth 2nd place finish of the four round ENS gave him the title with team-mate Teemu Leino making it a championship 1-2 for HB.  The title marks the first major success for the Japanese company’s R10.  Having been the dominant force in qualifying unfortunately for Serpent’s Dominic Greiner the chance to complete the perfect weekend would be taken out of his control, a conrod failure while leading the Main & on target for the title ending his race.
