A qualifying round for the German 1/8th Nitro Buggy nationals was held at the Oberhausen track last weekend. Team Durango driver Jörn Neumann (Team Durango/FX) showed great speed with the new DNX8 prototype right from the first practice run. Jörn was able to TQ and win the 30 minute final by over a lap from 2nd placed Daniel Reckward (RB/RB) and 3rd placed Marcel Guske (LRP/LRP).

The 2nd round of the Benelux Truggy nationals was held on the astroturf track of Helmond. 35 racers from the Netherlands and Belgium attended the event that was won by Belgium driver Kurt van Vlemen (Serpent). Jarno Pijper (Xray) and Jordy Velder (Kyosho) completed the top 3 result. The national series resumes on the 25th of May in Appingedam.

The 2nd round of Northern Germany Championship took place at the technical track in Braunschweig. Shepherd driver Lars Hoppe and Timo Schröder again dominated the whole weekend and showed a great performance after the double victory at the first round in Munster with Lars Hoppe finishing in front of Timo Schröder. In qualification it was Lars Hoppe who took the TQ in front of Timo Schröder and Michael Pätz in third place. At the start of the final Lars had some problems with his engine which gave Timo the chance to push him hard. After the first fuel stop Timo took the lead with his Velox V8 EC and it was an interesting fight between them for the remaining 25 minutes until Lars’ engine flamed out. At the end Timo crossed the finish line 1 lap in front of Lars with Michael Pätz completing the podium 5 laps down.

The Pista Futura track in Italy, host of the upcoming European Championship “B”, saw the 39th running of the 1st May Trophy. Team F.V.S.S. took the pole position and also the final victory with Cristiano Sartor (Shepherd/Novarossi) coming in 1st with Alberto Tedeschi (Serpent/Max) and Michael Canton (Mugen/Max) completing the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The 2nd annual Asia Contest was run at the former IFMAR World Championship track in Pataya and saw SWorkz’ Atsushi Hara taking the win from Wataru Takashiro (Kyosho) and Paphon C (Mugen). Witsatut R (Agama) and Meen V (Mugen) completed the top 5 result.

The South American Championship took place in Paulina, Brazil on a track built by The Dirt’s Joey Christensen. Serpent’s Mike Truhe took the TQ in both the nitro Buggy and nitro Truggy class. He then went on to win both of his semi finals to take the pole positions for the mains that he also won by a comfortable margin to take snatch both titles.

The 2014 KO Propo America Nitro on-road Grand Prix took place this past weekend hosted by the Greater Los Angeles R/C Club. Classes raced would be 1/8th Sportsman, 1/8th Expert, 1/10th Touring, 1/8th GT and 1/5th GT. Total entries for this event was an impressive 116 with 1/8th Expert being the largest class with 51 entries. Practice started on Friday with one round of qualifying, Saturday would be three rounds of qualifying and all mains raced on Sunday. Mike Swauger (Team Xray/Picco) would set the TQ pace for both 1/10th Touring and 1/8th Expert. 1/8th Sportsman TQ would be Otto Rosa, 1/8th GT Robbie Corrato and 1/5th GT Victor Garcia.

1:8 Onroad legend Lamberto Collari has confirmed his entry for Round 2 of the Euro Nitro Series which takes place in Austria over the weekend of May 16-18. The winner of the opening round of the all new nitro onroad championship last month in Melzo, Italy, the 9-time World Champion is one of a number of top Italian drivers who will travel to the Aigen track in Northern Austria. Also confirmed from Italy for the second event of the four events that make up the inaugural ENS race calendar are 2-time 1:10 European Champion Dario Balestri (Capricorn), 1:10 World Championship podium finisher Francesco Tironi (Shepherd), Round 1 1:8 A-Finalist Andrea Pirani (WRC) and former Euro B Champion Mirko Salemi (BP Racing).
