Simon Kurzbuch wins Rd2 in Switzerland

Last weekend saw the Lostallo track host the 2nd Round of the Swiss Championships and Mattia Pesenti sent us this report. The weather forecast wasn’t good but on Friday we could practice on dry conditions and the car was very good and easy to drive with good grip. Also the other Xray drivers were very fast and happy with the new car. Unfortunately on Saturday the rain came and we had to choose if use the ‘rain car’ or the ‘dry car’. We chose the ‘rain car’ and so we had to use it for the whole day.

Rick V takes Rd2 in Dutch Nationals

The 2nd round of the Dutch Nationals was held on Belgian soil at the beautiful track of Model Racing Genk. This is the first time ever that the Dutch competition is running on this track just over the border.  Because this track is also the homebase of some Belgium drivers they would have an advantage. On the Friday many people took the chance to run their first laps on this low grip track with only a very small gripline. The Saturday was wet and cold, and only at the end of the day it became dry and some laps were driven. The Sunday started dry but just before the start of the 1st heat it started to rain and did not stop until the main finals.

Riccardo Perin wins Italian season opener

The opening round of the Italian offroad season took place last weekend in Sacile. Qualifying saw Davide Tortorici, driving a Bliss powered Mugen, take the top spot ahead of Kyosho pairing Davide Ongaro and Fabrizio Teghesi with Carlo Jacopini and Riccardo Perin completing the top 5. In the final it was Agama driver Perin who came through to win the 45 minute encounter just less than a lap ahead of Teghesi in 2nd with reigning Champion Riccardo Rabitti, driving a prototype Crono, completing the podium. Pole man Tortorici hit problems in the final breaking his car on pit exit and ended the race in 6th.

Wayne Joelson wins Rd2 in South Africa

Round 2 of the South African On Road Gas Championships were held last weekend at the coastal city of East London. Rain on Thursday practice reduced setup time to just one day, and with high traction and fast sweepers fuel consumption and setup was critical. Reigning 1/8th scale SA champion Wayne Joelson, driving a Novarossi powered Mugen MRX5 took the top qualifying position with a 26 lapper in 5m12 for Sundays final, setting a new lap record of 11.1 seconds along the way. In the reduced 30 minute final Wayne ran 141 laps, to finish 11 laps ahead of 2nd position. The next round will be held in Durban on the 30th of June.

European Nitro Challenge – Announcement

Shepherd have announced the 2nd annual European Nitro Challenge for nitro on-road cars. The race will be held from the 7th to 10th of June at the Hockenheim Formula 1 circuit’s RC race track and is open to 1/10 and 1/8 scale nitro on-road cars in Open and HobbyCup classes with the latter need to run Novarossi N12T1 or Sonic .12 ProStock engines and Novarossi N21-5T or Sonic .21 ProStock engines respectively. The race which is organised by Shepherd with cooperation partners Serpent, Mugen, Picco, Sonic and LRP will not allow for tyre additives and already received entries from pilots like Robert Pietsch, Michael Salven, Dirk Wischnewski, Simon Kurbuch, Daniele Ielasi and more. Yannick Aigoin wins French Nats Rd2

A quick update from Belfort, France where Yannick Aigion has won the second round of the French 1/8th off-road nationals. The Team Associated driver, who also TQ’d the meeting, took the win with a one lap margin over his brother Jerome (Kyosho) with Renaud Savoya (Xray) coming in 3rd. Jerome Sartel (Agama) and Rayan Medjoubi (JQ) completed the top five.

Rino Lino wins GT @ Kosmic Shoot Out

The Kosmic Shoot Out was held this past weekend at the newly updated Blue Dimond Raceway in Delaware, USA. Over 70 racers attended this race which included Sedan, 1/8 Scale and GT. GT qualifying saw Paolo Morganti on the top spot. In the GT final, Serpent drivers Paolo M. and Rino L. where running first and second when Paolo had an electrical problem in his car that forced him to stop. Rino took over the lead and drove a mistake free race to take the win for the Serpent Team. Rino’s win continues the remarkable results for the Cobra GT. It has TQ’d every event it has entered and won every race this year.

Alain Sarafyan wins Buggyburn race

Team Losi Turkey Driver Alain Sarafyan has won the first Buggyburn race 2012. Turkish RC car enthusiasts met at the Snappy Raceway in Istanbul for the first Buggyburn race. The meeting was organised by Ciddi Amator and attracted both team drivers of Serpent, HPI Racing and Losi as well as a number of non-sponsored drivers. The race day started with free and later on controlled practice rounds. After three qualifying heats Alain Sarafyan took TQ followed by Mustafa Alp and Cengiz Gökbulut. Before the final A main, the B final was held which was won by Serhat Yalman with Hüseyin Erkuş in second and Suat Bayrakal in third place. The following A final was won by Team Losi Turkey Driver Alain Sarafyan with Mustafa Alp from Serpent Turkey in second position and Cengiz Gokbulut in third place.
