Christian Wimberger wins South German Rd1

The opening round of the 2010 German regionals took place for the Southern group at the tricky Zollhausring track near Nürnberg. After the qualifications it was Maximilian Vogl (Novarossi/Velox) on pole, setting a time of 24 laps in 5:05,700, 1,2 seconds ahead of Christian Wimberger (Novarossi/Mugen), with Dominik Mayer (Novarossi/Velox) and Christoph Pietsch completing the Top 4. 2nd African Cup GP report

2nd African Cup GP report

The 2nd African Cup GP On Road event took place recently and combined with it the IFMAR Pre Worlds Large scale discipline. The event saw 2 Australian drivers make the trip over to the race, which created a lot more excitement for the 1/8th discipline on it’s own, as they hadn’t seen foreign drivers competing in a club event since 2002.

Martin Bayer wins big at Bokor Cup 2009

Martin Bayer wins big at Bokor Cup 2009

One of the downsides of being so far out of a major city is that it makes you realize how much you depend on things you are used to having at your disposal. In my case this week, it was the internet. Unfortunately there was no hot spot I could drop by to send out my race reports this weekend, so I am sorry for the delay in the update. As we went to bed last night the forecast was for heavy storms and wind to rumble through the area, which had us all very worried, but as we awoke, we were very pleased to see that only a sprinkle hit us and soon the sun was bright as could be. We ran a total of 6 rounds of qualifying where a driver’s best 4 of the 6 rounds would be counted with points to determine which drivers would make the semi finals.

Adam Drake takes Buggy at NSS Rd2

Adam Drake takes Buggy at NSS Rd2

Adam Drake was in touch to tell us about the 2nd round of the Novarossi Summer series, which attracted 11 heats of drivers. In the buggy class it was Kyosho / Team Orion driver Cody King who TQ’d round one over Losi / Novarossi’s Adam Drake.  In round two the track was dusty and bumpy, but The Drake was able to TQ the round by more than 15 seconds over Cody and set a new overall fast time by one second. In the final Adam and Cody battled early on, but Cody broke something on the front end of his car at the 15min mark and this opened the door for Losi’s Matt Schreffler to take home second behind Drake, with Xray racer Chad Nevin claiming third.

There was a dramatic outcome to the 2009 EFRA 1:10 200mm European Championships here in Gubbio, Italy this evening, with heartbreak for race dominator Dario Balestri and total joy for new Champion Dirk Wischnewski. Starting from pole Balestri’s Novarossi powered Team Magic was untouchable allowing the defending back to back Champion to lap the entire field, but in the final 10 minutes of the race the Italian suffered gearbox problems ending his quest for a hat trick of titles.

Euros Final grid complete – Big names missing

Euros Final grid complete - Big names missing

The Semi Finals have been run and the 6 drivers who will join the four direct qualifiers has been decided.  In the Semi B Manuel Huber took a relative easy win over Dirk Wischnewski but the Semi A was a far more dramatic affair. Serpent’s Michael Salven lead for over half of the 20 minutes encounter but with 7 minutes to go and with a healthy lead his engine cut. This handed Mugen’s Guiseppe D’angelo the lead but he too flamed out with less than 3 minutes to go. Having benefited from the demise of Mark Green’s out of control Serpent 733 to move in to second, Martin Hudy came through to take the win from Gerhard Kandelhart. The other two qualifiers based on the next two fastest race times from both Semi Finals were Alexander Hagberg and Giorgio De Felici who come from the Semi B.

Balestri secures Pole position in Italy

Balestri secures Pole position in Italy

Dario Balestri will start tomorrow’s EFRA 1:10 200mm European Championships from pole position after the fourth and final round of qualifying failed to see any improvements from the front runners, Serpent’s Jilles Groskamp being the biggest improver going from 42nd after round 3 to a Semi Final place with 13th. Fastest for the round, which was overall slower due to the higher track temperatures, was Jerome Renaux who lines up a very impressive second on the grid.
