’23 IFMAR 1:10 Off-Road World C/ships Stage 1 Report

Hobby Action has issued the Stage 1 Report for its hosting of the 2023 IFMAR 1:10 Offroad World Championships. The best drivers in the World will descend on the indoor track in Arizona from September 9-16th to battle it out for both the 2WD and 4WD title honours of what will be the 19th running of the World Championships. A 20,000 square feet facility and track that already has its own established major annual event in the Desert Classic (March 1-5), the Stage 1 Report confirms the traditional Worlds Warm-up Race will take place on May 27/28th.

Greiner joins Hotrace Tyres

Italian tyre manufacturer Hotrace Tyres has announced that Dominic Greiner has joined their factory team. Widely regarded as one of nitro onroad racing’s fastest drivers, the former World Champion and reigning double European Champion joins Nicola Marrone’s company after a long stint with rival Italian brand Matrix Racing Tires. The German will contest a number of open tyre events in 2023 to represent Hotrace products and it is expected that he will represent Marrone’s latest venture, Lens Bodies, as they release their first 1:8 and 1:10 Onroad bodyshells into the market.

Yokomo confirm Krapp for inaugural MIBO International

Team Yokomo will be officially represented at the inaugural MIBO International Race in the Czech Republic with the news that their star touring car driver Christopher Krapp is to contest the exciting new international event on March 3-5th. The 2022 ISTC World Championship runner-up, is no stranger to Hrotovice having travelled to the town to contested both Mibosport Cup and ETS races previously held at the popular Sport V Hotel venue. Organised by former international Team Yokomo driver Michal Bok, there has already been a hugely positive reaction to the first MIBO International Race with over 100 entries received within the first 24 hours of registration opening. With the demise of many of the ‘classic’ annual indoor Winter races that were once a staple of the annual racing calendar, Bok hopes the MIBO International Race can recreate that atmosphere & significance of these one off international events. Like its predecessor, the Mibosport Cup, which was a series of races, the one off MIBO International Race weekend will feature two separate tracks to cater for both Onroad and Offroad racing action.

Sunpadow International Grand Prix (SIGP) returns in ’23

Sunpadow has announced that the SIGP International RC Car Grand Prix will be resumed in 2023. The Sunpadow International Grand Prix (SIGP) event had established itself as one of the leading annual international RC event and attracted many of the sports top drivers. World Champion Bruno Coelho was the winner of the onroad edition in 2019 while in 2018 Ryan Lutz won the Offroad edition and a year earlier Joern Nuemann took the win from Atsushi Hara. While actual race dates are still to be finalised Offroad is expected to be held in August, along with on-road in In October or November. Taking place at the 2017 Electric Offroad Championship venue in Xiamen, the SIGP will continue to offer one of the biggest prize as before with the total bonus for the two series as high as $ 70,000. MIBO International Race – Registration Open

Registration for the exciting new MIBO International Race on March 3-5th is now open. Building on the successful Mibo Cup Race Series that ran in Hrotovice in the Czech Republic pre Covid, this new annual event with continue the tradition of the popular Michal Bok organised series by running both onroad and offroad at the same event. The Mibosport team will build two separate tracks at the Sport V Hotel indoor venue to create an action packed gathering of electric racers. Registration is open via MyRCM with a new system meaning entry fee payments are due in advance directly in MyRCM via PayPal or Debit/Credit cards. Phend Top Qualifier at Southern Indoor Championship

TLR’s Dakotah Phend has secured the big TQ at the Southern Indoor Championship in Alabama. The first big major on the annual US 1:8 Offroad calendar, the Racetime Entertainment organised indoor event is a big weekend in terms of new driver/manufacturer pairings following some significant driver announcements over the New Year break. In Nitro Buggy, it was Phend who kicked off qualifying with the fastest time ahead of the Ryans, Maifield’s Tekno taking P2 followed by Lutz’s Kyosho with third. Q2 would see Maifield top the time sheets from Sworkz’s Joe Bornhorst with Lutz again completing the Top 3. For Phend it was a bad round 2 as he ended up P5. All coming down to the third & final qualifier, Phend was back to form laying down the outright fastest time of qualifying to secure the overall TQ, 2 rounds from 3 to count. Maifield locked in 2nd overall from Lutz, Team Associated’s Lee Setser and Joe Bornhorst with new team-mate Brandon Rose rounding out the Top 6. In Nitro Truggy, it is Jared Tebo who is Top Qualifier. As the reigning SIC Champion, winning both Buggy & Truggy last year from the TQ, Maifield took the first qualifier from Sworkz’s Camden Lime, Phend and new Mayako signing Jared Tebo. Runner-up last year in Truggy, Tebo would find his stride in the next two qualifiers topping them both for the overall TQ. Again Maifield ends up P2 with Phend 3rd ahead of Lime, Lutz and the TLR of youngster Phi Long Nguyen.

2023 Desert Classic – Announcement

Hobby Action in Chandler, Arizona have announced the date for the 2023 Desert Classic with the 7th edition of the annual event taking place from March 1st to 5th. An event that has established itself as a major fixture in the early part of the international 1:10 Offroad calendar after filling the void left after the demise of the Cactus Classic. Again sponsored by Stickit1 Racing, the 2023 edition is set to have even more significance on the calendar as a preparation race for the IFMAR 1:10 Offroad World Championships that Hobby Action will host in September of this year. Entries for the Desert Classic are open from the 22nd of this month and the race will be open to all the usual classes.

Phend does triple at ‘Clash of Champions’

Dakotah Phend has got his 2023 season off the perfect start with a triple TQ & Win at the 1st Annual ‘Clash of Champions’ at Hoosier RC Hobbyplex in Indiana. Qualifying for 1:10 indoor electric offroad dirt event saw an untouchable Phend take the 2WD Mod Buggy TQ from Team Associated pairing Spencer Rivkin and Dustin Evans. In 4WD Buggy it was Xray team-mates Tom Rinderknecht and Ty Tessmann who filled P2 and 3 on the grid behind the TLR star. In Mod truck took all three rounds of qualifying for the TQ ahead of Tessmann, Rivkin and new TLR signing Cole Tollard. In the triple main finals, Phend wrapped up all three classes by winning the opening two A-Mains of each. In 2WD Buggy, the A3 win gave Rivkin second from Rinderknecht in third. While Tessmann won A3 of Mod Truck second places in A1 & 2 was enough for Rivkin to hold the overall runner-up spot. In 4WD, with Phend again able to sit out A3, it was Rinderknecht who took the win to secure second overall with Tessmann completing the podium.
