Sobue & Rathiesky complete the double double

Akio Sobue put in a dominant performance in what was mostly a precessional race in the Sweep Modified class at TRC this afternoon. Never really challenged, the Japanese driver was able to pull clear of the chasing pack early on and build up a substantial lead by the end. Behind, Nicholas Lee had what can be described a lonely race in 2nd. While Jin Sawada and a very fast starting Jan Ratheisky, starting in 8th, had a good battle for 4th. That battle would become for 3rd as just ahead Andy Moore had a big moment coming onto the main straight and stuffed it into the wall on the main straight but somehow only lost 2 positions and was able to bring it home in 5th. Jin could stay in front of the German to take the final step on the podium with Jan finishing in 4th.

Sobue claims pole position for Rd4 at TRC

Akio Sobue will start from pole position in round 4 of the OneTen series having taking his 2nd TQ run of the day. Nicholas Lee will start from 2nd position, the Yokomo driver tying on points with Andy Moore but having the faster time thanks to his Q3 run. Jin Sawada and Felix Law complete the top half of the grid. Sobue was the only driver in the top heat on new tires but due to the heat felt the track was more loose than before. The Infinity driver also noticing a more considerable drop off in pace later in the run compared to earlier. For the final, Akio said he will simply mount his final set of tires.

Q2 goes to Andy Moore

Andy Moore has TQd the 2nd round of qualifying at the OneTen series in Hong Kong, the Infinity driver heading home Nicholas Lee, Jan Ratheisky and Felix Law, the top 4 all deciding to run one of their new sets of Sweep tires for this round. Jin Sawada was quickest of the drivers who decided to use old tires, team mate Akio Sobue ending in 9th having run 2 run old tires. With the knowledge of his team mates running old tires Andy Moore bolted one of his 2 remaining fresh sets, the result being that he now has a 1st and a 2nd and at a minimum will give him a 3rd on the grid, saying he doesn’t believe he can produce a better result in the remaining two rounds.

Sobue opens up Rd4 in Hong Kong with TQ

Round 4 of the OneTen series presented by Infinity kicked off early this morning with one round of controlled practice followed by the first of 4 rounds of 4 minute qualifiers which will determine the grid for this afternoon’s single 8-minute A-main. Akio Sobue was again the pace setter this morning, running the fastest lap of the first rounds of qualifying to take a 3 seconds advantage over Infinity team mates Andy Moore and Jin Sawada. Hay Lai would take 4th for the round driving his Xpress with Serpent driver Felix Law fastest of those running in the 2nd fastest heat, in 5th. Running on new tires for Q1 Sobue knew that with Nicholas Lee on old tires he had to put in a safe run, the Yokomo driver having saved one more of the 5 allocated tires than the Japanese driver. Continuing to run his Infinity IF14 unchanged since yesterday, Akio, like all his competitors, are now playing the tire strategy game with all drivers expected to keep one new set for the single 8 minute main.

Sobue & Ratheisky take overall wins at OneTen Series Rd3

Japanese driver Akio Sobue has wrapped up the overall Modified victory in Rd3 of the OneTen Series presented by Infinity. In a repeat of the opening leg of the triple mains, the Infinity driver was able to pull clear of the chasing pack, lead by Nicholas Lee. The top 4 running in the same order as they started, it was Andy Moore who cracked first, crashing out on the now infamous main straight kerb, retiring on the spot. Nicholas Lee lead another 3 way battle, this time with Jin Sawada and Jan Ratheisky following behind. Jin was holding position until a main shaft bearing on his IF14 failed causing him to strip his spur gear and putting him out.
