Daniele Ielasi swaps asphalt for dirt

In a statement on social media, Italy’s Daniele Ielasi has announced his, possibly temporary, turning away from competition nitro on-road racing. The former IFMAR World and Italian National Champion will concentrate on 1/8th Nitro and Electric Buggy racing in 2018, campaigning HB Racing’s B817 and E817 kits. Daniele points out that professional 1/8th on-road racing is taking too much of his time, feeling that race preparation counts more than racing itself, something he hopes will be different in off-road racing. About his move Daniele had the following to say:

That’s right. From this year, after 30 exact years of track racing between categories 1/8 on and 1/10 on, it’s time to add a new challenge to my modeling career, off road! I have to admit it was a very difficult decision, but, as often happens in life you come to a point that you must have the strength to make certain decisions that are important to your future, and even if sometimes they may seem too hasty and little sense.

2017/18 Mibosport Cup finale – Report

The final round of the 2017/18 Mibosport Cup was held this past weekend in Hrotovice, Czech Republic. The grand final was held at the usual location within a sports hall but the attendees had to cope with difficult weather conditions travelling to the destination. Nevertheless a total of 254 entries, including several ETS and EOS stars, made it to the race that marked the season end of the famous championship series. In the premier on-road class, Touring Modified, it was Ronald Völker who lead the way in front of teammate Christopher Krapp. Young Oliver Havranek however was highly motivated and starting from P3 he tried to stay in touch with the battling pair up front. Ultimately it was Ronald with the win from Christopher 2nd and Oliver, after some nice driving, in 3rd. Dominic Vogl finished further back on the 4th position beating Dionys Stadler in 5th.

Robert Batlle wins Montpellier GP

The annual Montpellier GP, European season opener for the 1/8th off-road class, was held in France this past weekend. As usual the event attracted most of Europe’s 1/8th off-road aces and it was Italy’s Riccardo Berton (Kyosho) who would take the overall TQ courtesy of winning the opening three qualifiers. Spain’s Juan Carlos Canas (Mugen) would come in 2nd after the qualifiers. In the main final it was the duo of Davide Ongaro and Juan Carlos Canas who obtained the top spots, however from the depth of the field it was Mugen’s Robert Batlle who was after a fourth Montpellier win and so he would keep his head down and ultimately was able to get past the duo of Juan and Davide who weren’t able to challenge Robert. In the end Batlle would take the win from Juan Carlos 2nd and Davide 3rd as Riccardo Berton and David Ronnefalk (HB Racing) rounded out the top 3 podium result.

In third and only a tenth of a second short of Andrew, Michael Hanulec would end the race on the 3 spot.
