ETS waves chequered flag on 10th season with first visit to Ettlingen

The chequered flag will be waved on the 10th season of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series this weekend (28-30 July) as the championship travels for the first time to the Ettlingen track in Germany. A regular host venue of the Euro Nitro Series, Ettlingen will become the 10th different outdoor circuit to feature on the ETS calendar over its hugely successful 10 seasons of existence. The 57th race to be put on by Uwe Rheinard and Scotty Ernst since creating the championship in 2007, the Ettlingen entry includes all four of the drivers who have lifted the prestigious ETS title in that period. While Bruno Coelho already wrapped up his second consecutive Volante Modified title last month at the Hudy Arena, the racing will be no less competitive with teams looking to end their campaigns on a high note.

Eventful A1 allows Wang to take easy win

Following the final two qualifiers in the morning, the finals at RCI V2 in Shanghai finally got underway. In the opening modified class A-main TQ driver JJ Wang pulled away right from the start and was able to quickly build up a large lead while the rest of the field had a rough start following an early coming together. In the end the Xray factory driver cruised to the win ahead of Serpent team driver Felix Law, who following a tough battle emerged in 2nd place while under huge pressure from Nicholas Lee, managing to hold off the Singaporean driver by 0.5 seconds at the end. Just behind the ‘unlucky’ Yokomo driver, Rocket Zhang finished the final just 0.38 seconds back and took 4th position, the gap from 2nd to 4th being covered by less than a second at the end of the 5 minute run. Young Xray driver Lao Min Hao held 2nd position early in the race but fell back to end the race behind Motor King in 6th.

Lee Martin takes 2WD European Championship title

The 2017 EFRA 1/10th Off-road European Championships are held in Pinerolo, Italy this week. After completely dry qualifying for the 2WD Championship, showers before the finals presented a new conundrum for all the drivers. England’s Lee Martin started from pole with Riccardo Berton (Kyosho) a surprise 2nd for Italy. Leg 1 saw a textbook run from Lee winning with some ease, however in the 2nd leg the changing surface conditions and a lack of information about the progress of the race nearly caught out the Yokomo driver and he slowed one lap too early almost handing victory to Michal Orlowski, but a good piece of defensive driving saw Lee over the line to claim his 6th European championship The final leg saw a win for Schumacher and Poland’s Orlowski that enabled him to take the runner up spot in the championship. With soild runs, TLR’s Reno Savoya would round out the podium result.
