Coelho leads way in 1st timed practice at ETS Luxembourg

Coelho leads way in 1st timed practice at ENS Luxembourg

Bruno Coelho has set the pace in the first of the two timed practices at the penultimate round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Luxembourg. Last year’s race winner posted the fastest 3-laps ahead of Jilles Groskamp stretching his advantage over the Dutch driver, the pair more evenly match in the morning’s untimed practice. Behind them it was local hero Lucas Urbain who would complete the Top 3 with a time 1/1000th of a second faster than defending champion Ronald Volker. A crucial weekend in the three way title battle, it wasn’t a great start to the weekend for Marc Rheinard as he found himself only 10th fastest over 1.4-seconds off points leader Coelho.

press_lux-770x462

The penultimate round of the Euro Touring Series travels to Luxembourg this weekend (23-25 June) and to one of the most unique circuits in the world. With its famous Laguna Seca corkscrew section, Mini Circuit ‘Ville de Luxembourg’, plays host to the ETS for a third time as the race marks the 50th race in the world famous championship’s history. While marking a significant milestone for series founders Uwe Rehinard and Scotty Ernst, on track all the attention will be on the three way driver/manufacturer on track battle for the Season #9 Volante Modified title. Securing victory at the previous round which marked the start of the outdoor half of the season, it is Bruno Coelho who leads the way coming into the weekend. Last year the large track proved a very happy hunting ground for the Xray star as it was where he would claim his first ever win of the high profile championship and a win this Sunday evening would see him crowned only the fourth different champion of the ETS.

Elliott Boots doubles at 2016 Kyosho Masters

Elliott Boots doubles at 2016 Kyosho Masters

The annual Kyosho Masters was held in France over the weekend with some of the World’s fastest Kyosho off-road drivers in attendance. The drivers that arrived on Thursday were greeted by questionable weather and the forecast for the whole weekend looked very unsettled. Friday started out a bit wet but overall the weather allowed for decent track conditions. During Saturday’s qualifying Elliott Boots was able to secure himself the TQ spots in both the Elite Buggy and E-Buggy classes. Sunday was the main final day and it began with a big downpour. For the semifinals though the track was dry again and thanks to scoring the fastest time, Elliott would also grab the pole position for the Nitro Buggy main final. In the 45 minute A-main, Elliott would continue to dominate, taking the win some two laps ahead of Italy’s Riccardo Berton with Elliott’s fellow countryman, Jack Embling rounding out the top 3. In the triple E-Buggy A-mains, Elliott would again make a clean sweep by winning all three legs to take a dominant win from Riccardo Berton and Jack Embling.

2 out 2 as Kurzbuch dominates ENS Germany

2 out 2 as Kurzbuch dominates ENS Germany

Simon Kurzbuch made it two out of two in this season’s Euro Nitro Series with a dominant drive at Round 2 in Germany.  Top Qualifier at Minidrom Ettlingen, topping both rounds of qualifying that could be completed in-between the rain on Saturday, the Shepherd driver put in a text book performance in the 45-minute main to win by over a lap.  With last year’s winner Dario Balestri, who qualified 2nd expected to at least make the World Champion work for the win, that challenge lasted only 2-minutes as the Capricorn driver shed a front wheel.  This left Bruno Coelho to provide chase but the Xray driver would make a mistake leaving Kurzbuch to cruise home for an extensive lead in the championship standing.  One-lap down, a great drive from Toni Gruber would see the ARC driver finish second to claim his first ever ENS podium having seen off the challenge of Alberto Picco.  Crossing the line 3rd, Picco’s Mugen would fail post race scrutiny, the tank deemed to big, which promoted Capricorn’s Robin D’hondt up a spot to compete the podium.

Leino wins exciting German ENS encounter

Leino wins exciting German ENS encounter

Teemu Leino took victory in an exciting 1:10 A-Main at Round 2 of the Euro Nitro Series in Germany, the Infinity driver winning by 1-second from Dominic Greiner in a battle that would see the podium all finish on the same lap after 45-minutes of racing.  Starting second on the grid, the Finn would take the initial lead after 3-laps but chased by Greiner would end up on the grass when the Serpent driver ran into the back of his Capricorn.  With Greiner waiting for Leino to rejoin the track, the pair would drop down the order handing Top Qualifier Erik Dankel back the lead before being passed by Bruno Coelho.  Unfortunately for former champion Dankel a flame out would scupper his chances of a podium result at his home track.  Holding his lead for 45-laps, Coelho would lose the lead when he made a stop for tyres but his race hopes would later fade when he suffered a flame out on his in lap with 2-laps lost getting it fired back up.  All the time Leino and Greiner were working their way back to the front but ultimately able to stretch his fuel a few seconds more between stops to save one trip to the pits it was Leino who would come out on top with an impressive drive by Patrick Nahr seeing him join them on the podium.  For last year’s race winner and winner of this season’s opening race Dirk Wischnewski today’s race would net a fourth from ninth on the grid.
