World Championship Track Focus

World Championship Track Focus

The 16th running of the IFMAR 1:10 Offroad World Championships takes place at the World famous Yatabe Arena with the Japanese venue’s second hosting of the bi-annual event sparking much debate and divide within the offroad racing circles. With the World’s best drivers having fought it out for the sport’s greatest prize on dirt since the championship was first held in 1985, 30-years on the week long event will be run without a bit of dirt in sight.  After receiving a proposal from the Japanese hosts seeking to use an artificial surface, the sport’s governing body IFMAR accepted, allowing the Yatabe Arena to create the first astro turf World Championship track.  With many purists opposed to allowing an Offroad World Championship to be decided on a ‘touring car track with jumps’,  7-time Offroad World Champion & legend of the sport Masami Hirosaka sees a place for both dirt and astro turf tracks in the sport.

Cyril N'Diaye joins Team Magic/HRC

European Team Magic distributors HRC Distribution have announced the signing of 3-times French Champion and multiple French Vice-Champion Cyril N’Diaye to their team. The former Yokomo driver will receive full factory support to run Team Magic’s E4RS III touring car and he has the following to say about the deal:

I had the opportunity to test the car of Léo Arnold during French Nationals at Tours in June, and I was very impressed by his corner speed and overall handling. After the French Cup in September, Lionel Troyon gave me a E4RS III kit to make some tests at my local track. I like the feeling I have with that car, and his overall handling and great precision. I also like the way the team works, very close to TM factory. So I decided to joins the team. I thank Team Magic and HRC team for this great opportunity. I also would like to deeply thank Yokomo Team for the 5 last years with them. I wish them all the best, especially to Ronald and Umino for the next worlds in Beijing.

Asia On-Road Championship Rd4 – Finals Recap

Asia On-Road Championship – Finals Recap

After Saturday’s thunderstorm and rain scare, the sun was back for Sunday allowing the race to proceed with the final two rounds of mains to decide Asia On-road Championship’s 4th round champions. It was do or die time for Xray’s Alexander Hagberg with Yokomo’s Ronald Volker taking a close win in A1. Much like in A1, Volker pushed hard on the 1st lap to get a comfortable gap between him and his rivals. Trading lap for lap, Volker’s lead remained 0.8 seconds throughout the race. With time running out, Hagberg was pushing maximum and unfortunately caught the curb and rolled his car with a minute left. This would allow Volker to cruise to his 2nd win and take the overall in the Modified Sedan class. Hagberg would finish just 1.7 seconds back from Volker for 2nd followed by Nicholas Lee in 3rd.
