3 out 3 for Matsukura in Florida

3 out 3 for Matsukura in Florida

At a somewhat subdued 1:12 World Championship, only 44 drivers contesting the longest running electric category World Championships, Naoto Matsukura made it three out three in qualifying at the Florida event. Round 3 of qualifying saw the Yokomo driver again top the times as he became the first & only driver to run 53-laps over 8-minutes to put himself on provisional pole for his quest for a fourth consecutive title. With 3 from 6 rounds to count the only way the Japanese driver can now be denied becoming Top Qualifier is for one driver to top all three remaining qualifiers, the last of which takes place tomorrow morning. Behind Matsukura the continually improving Marc Rheinard, who was 4th in Q1 and 3rd in Q2, set the second fastest time with Hideo Kitazawa completing the Top 3.

Matsukura opens 1:12 Worlds with TQ run

Defending Champion Naoto Matsukura opened qualifying at the 1:12 World Championship in Florida with a TQ run, the Yokomo driver setting the pace over fellow Japanese driver Hideo Kitazawa and Masatsugu Ido. Having convincingly stamped his authority on practice yesterday to be top seed for qualifying, an early crash put Alexander Hagberg out of contention, the Xray driver eventually ending up 11th at the end of the first of the six 8-minute qualifiers.

The Worlds according to Ruona – Worlds afterthoughts

The Worlds according to Ruona – Worlds afterthoughts

Better late than never? I guess that is my theme for this entry as we all recover from the long world championship event. It seems everyone got sick after the event too which has led to a long recovery and hang-over. I ask my myself immediately following the 60 minute A-final event. So if you win on Sunday or in this case on Saturday, do you sell on Monday? That is why we are all there right? A promotion to help ignite sales of the product. Everyone should be lined up to buy all the latest product that was on the winning ride starting with the Hot Bodies D812….right?

International Carpet Challenge 2015 – Announcement

International Carpet Challenge 2015 – Announcement

The organisers of the ICC have confirmed that the event will return in 2015. Building on the success of last year’s event, which saw the UK’s Kyle Branson narrowly beating top German drivers Freddy Sudhoff and Yannic Prumper, the event will return across the weekend of the 20th to 22nd February 2015. The format will remain largely unchanged for 2015, being held at the same location in Essex, South-East England, and organised by the world-famous EWS Team and RC media personality Oli Meggitt. There has been a slight tweak to the classes for 2015 – the Open Modified and HPI Vintage Challenge classes return, but the Stock and Pro Stock classes have been combined into the new Super Stock class – for 13.5T motors with zero timing (“blinky”) speed controllers. More details and sign-up for the event can be found here.

Maifield moves from Novarossi to Team Orion for 2015

Maifield switches from Novarossi to Team Orion for 2015

It turns out the rumours floating around the paddock in Sicily were true with new TLR signing Ryan Maifield making the switch from Novarossi to Team Orion’s nitro factory team. The US driver, who started from pole position and lead last Saturday’s main final until a steering servo took him out of contention, joined their electric section earlier this year and will now also be using all Team Orion CRF nitro products in his cars from January 1st 2015. CRF team manager Adrien Bertin commented on Ryan’s decision as follows: “Drivers of the caliber of Ryan Mayfield have their choice of engines to run. It is with great satisfaction that we welcome Ryan in our team and admire his decision to run with Team Orion CRF engines. It is another confirmation of our successful product and team strategy.”

Tessmann gets his World title

Tessmann gets his World title

Ty Tessmann is the new 1:8 Offroad World Champion. Having stamped his authority on the Sicilian event in early qualifying, the HB driver would take victory in the Main in rather convincing fashion. Starting from second on the grid the Canadian would take control of the race following problems for pole position starter Ryan Maifield to win by a comfortable margin of Team Associated’s Ryan Cavallieri and Mugen’s Carson Wernimont. Leading the race a steering servo failure would rob Maifield a true shot at obtaining the one title that has eluded the American offroad star. The only other driver to look like a potential treat to Tessmann, having denied the 21-year-old the win 2-years-ago in Argentina, outgoing champion Robert Batlle would also hit trouble when his Mugen ran out of fuel just metres before a scheduled pitstop.

Maifield on pole in Sicily

Maifield on pole in Sicily

Ryan Maifield is on pole position for the 1-hour title deciding final of the 1:8 Offroad World Championships in Sicily. Running in the second of the 30-min Semi Finals, the Team Losi Racing driver ran a faster race time by 11-seconds over that of Top Qualifier & Semi A winner Ty Tessmann to securing the top spot on the 12 car grid ahead of Tessmann and defending champion Robert Batlle. While Maifield took an easy win over Ryan Lutz and Jared Tebo it was the first Semi that provided all the drama with engine wows robbing both Lee Martin and David Ronnefalk the chance to compete in the showdown to become the 15th World Champion.
