Frank Baggen wins 1/8th at 40+ EFRA Euros

Last week’s EFRA 40+ Nitro On-Road European Championships in the Netherlands not only saw the running of the 1/10th 200mm class but also 1/8th scale racing. At the end of the 45 minute final the top 3 drivers were all in the same lap, making for a very close finish. In the first part of the final it looked like Jack Ermen would have the chance to grab the win but a broken rear belt ended his title ambitions. His issues made way for Frank Baggen and Remy Hasler with Frank keeping it together to wrap up the European Championship title despite being attacked hard by Hasler. At the end Baggen finished some 5 seconds in front of Arie Manten with Remy Hasler coming in 3rd only 1 second down on Manten.

Frank Andersen takes 40+ 200mm Euro title

The 2014 40+ Nitro On-Road European Championships were held last week at the M.A.C. de Baanbrekers club in Rucphen, NL. Most of the qualification heats were run in dry conditions, with Traugott Schär taking the TQ honours in the 200mm class after six rounds. The semi finals on Saturday then became a wet affair which led to several of the top drivers failing to bump up into the main final. Thankfully after the lunch break the track dried up so the final would be run in dry conditions. Taking the lead after a few minutes, Frank Andersen held on to the lead crossing the finish line in first place after 45 minutes with a comfortable 3 lap margin on Bernd Hasselbring. Martin Schöffel completed the all-Xray podium.

Essex Summer Series – Update

Essex Summer Series - Update

The EWS Events team have today announced that their first outdoor event, the 2014 Essex Summer Series, has been moved to the Adur circuit on the outskirts of Brighton, Sussex. The event was set to be held at the Brookland Raceway circuit in Kent, but regrettably the facility ran out of time to make the track upgrades and changes necessary to host an event on this scale. Thankfully, the Adur Model Car Club offered their facility as an alternative, which the organising team were more than happy to accept. The race will remain on the same date of 13th and 14th September. You can check out the EWS Events Facebook page for regular updates and to ask any questions here.

Ronnefalk successfully defends title

Ronnefalk successfully defends title

David Ronnefalk has successfully defended his 1:8 Offroad European Championship title with a convincing victory in Sand am Main. Having set the benchmark all week at the German event, the Kyosho star took an easy win over the Xray of Martin Wollanka but a mistake on the opening lap meant the Swede didn’t have it as easy as was expected. Making a mistake on the opening lap when on the run up the hill he landed his Orion powered MP9 on the track marker this allowed Darren Bloomfield to the front of the 1-hour main which also saw the Xray’s of Martin Bayer and Renaud Savoya lead for a time the 12-car field. After an entertaining opening 15-minutes Ronnefalk got back to the front and finding the composed form he has shown all week pulled clear to resume control. With first time finalist Wollanka securing a surprise second and his team-mate Renaud Savoya retiring from 3rd with a clutch bearing failure with 5-minutes to go the race for the final podium placing would be fought out by former Champions Darren Bloomfield and Robert Batlle. In the end it was Agama’s Bloomfield who came out on top with Batlle who found himself last at the end of the opening lap having to settle for fourth.
