Kyosho France announce the 15th running of the Kyosho Masters. The race will take place at Sucy en Brie in France from the 14th to the 16th of June this year. With just seven weeks to go before the 1/8th IC European A Championships gets underway at the Halifax track in England, last weekend was the pre-event warm up race providing the participants the opportunity to gain some valuable track time ahead of the main event. With a lower than anticipated entry due to busy race calendars across Europe, we still had the presence of Italian Marco Vanni, German Oliver Mack and Emil Kostadinov. With such a low entry, the club decided to arrange free practice for all day Friday and also Saturday and Sunday morning until a break for lunch. The format after lunch was for three rounds of qualifying and 30 minute finals for all competitors. With the lap timer on all weekend, it was good to gauge comparative lap times and the magic five minute run time setup which would prove essential come qualifying.

So, after much discussion, debate and deadline extensions, the 2014 Electric On-Road World Championships was awarded to the USA, and the Full Throttle Speedway in Florida. Personally, I think it is right that ROAR should hold this event – yes, the on-road element in the States isn’t anywhere near as strong as off-road at present, but we often see the ebb and flow of popularity between classes. It’s also a great advertisement to get more people into the on-road classes and, let’s not forget, the event is for the 1/12th class as well as the Touring Car Class. The US is home to many of the smaller 1/12th-producing companies – an excellent opportunity for them to attend that section of the event and again promote their product.

The Astra Nitro Cross 2013 was held last weekend at Auto Bayer arena in Slavkov u Brna and Martin Bayer gives a short rundown on how the meeting went. The event is the largest in the Czech Republic with many drivers from Europe attending the annual event. The track again was pretty challenging with banked turns, technical corners and difficult jumps. Rain on Friday meant the race started a little later than planned and practice was limited to rounds with a following qualification round. The first practice round was run on a wet track but that later on dried up. Xray’s Martin Bayer was able to TQ both openings rounds of the nitro buggy and electric buggy class. On Saturday four more rounds of qualification were run and again both classed been dominated by Martin. Five minutes before the third run a heavy rain interrupted the racing making it necessary to cancel the round.

On the weekend of the 7th of July Racing Experience France will hold the Novarossi Trophy Grenoble. Run in 1/8th 4WD, 1/8th GT and 1/8th 2WD Classic the race will see the attendance of Adrien Bertin with some other big names to be announced soon. Mark Green and Eric Dankel took the wins at the first ever Euro Nitro Series held at the Hockenheimring in Germany where the winning margin in both the 1:8 and 1:10 Touring finals was just 3-seconds. Green’s first international win for some time, the British ace was joined on the podium by the Mugen of World Champion Robert Pietsch and his Serpent team-mate Michael Salven. Leading the Touring Car final from start to finish Top Qualifier Dankel was surrounded by French drivers on the podium with Basile Concialdi finishing 2nd to making it a Capricorn 1-2 with fellow countryman Michael Derderian driving an Xray in 3rd.

Robert Pietsch and Eric Dankel are the Top Qualifiers for the first ever Euro Nitro Series Race, the German duo set to lead away the 12 car A-Main grids later this evening at the Hockenheimring in Germany. While Dankel put pole position for the 45-minute 1:10 Touring final beyond the reach of his rivals in last night’s penultimate qualifier, the number 1 starting position for the 1:8 A-Main was still to play for in this morning’s fifth & final qualifier between Pietsch and Mark Green. In the end despite failing to finish Q5 it was Mugen driver Pietsch who took the honour on tie break thanks to him having a faster TQ run than that of Green, although in the final qualifier Green did post his fastest run of the weekend when he took 2nd behind Serpent team-mate Salven. Having ran a TQ pace in nearly every qualifier Salven was finally able to keep the run clean to claim TQ for the round doing so with the fastest 4-minute run of the event.

The third round of qualifying for the Euro Nitro Series ‘Pilot Race’ saw Mark Green and Eric Dankel record a second TQ run at the Hockenheimring in Germany. Opening the event, earlier in the day, with a TQ run Green took Q3 from Shepherd’s Lars Hoppe in a round that saw Q2 pace setter Robert Pietsch suffer an engine failure and Michael Salven make yet another costly mistake while on a TQ pace. After a bad start to qualifying, Capricorn’s Dankel backed up his Q2 topping performance with another TQ run again ahead of Dirk Wischnewski who is struggling to find a set-up for the still low traction caused by the rain that effected the event all of yesterday and for the first part of today.
