ETS Season 6 resumes at Apeldoorn

After an 11-week break, the Yokomo Euro Touring Series resumes this weekend (May 17-19) in the Netherlands with the beautiful Apeldoorn track getting the second half of the World famous electric touring car championship’s sixth season underway.  A hugely popular track with competitors, the fourth round attracting 280 entries, defending champion Ronald Volker heads into the weekend at the top of the championship standings ahead of Yokomo team-mate Yannic Prumper and last year’s race winner Marc Rheinard. Volker, who has two wins and a third to his credit this season, will be hoping he has much better fortunes than he experienced 12-months ago in Apeldoorn when a difficult qualifying meant he would end up racing in the E-Final.

Xray Challenge Germany

From 9-12 May the first ever Xray Challenge Germany race in Kirchhain, organized by German Xray importer SMI, gave drivers the chance to race in a friendly environment while pitting themselves against top international racers and profiting from their know-how. A total of more than 130 drivers took part in the event open to the 1/8- and 1/10-scale nitro categories, 1/10-scale electric touring cars, and 1/8-scale offroad. The weather stayed perfect for the practice sessions scheduled on Thursday and Friday until 5pm, giving all drivers ample opportunity to get out on the track. The first set of heats took place on Friday afternoon, with another three sets planned for the following day. Worsening weather conditions on Saturday, however, meant that for virtually all of the groups the fourth set fell victim to the rain.

IRCC2013 Nagoya Airport race – Announcement

IRCC2013 Nagoya Airport race – Announcement

The organisers of the annual IRCC event that takes place in Japan have been in contact to tell us about this year’s event which will be held from the 28th to the 30th of June. The race is unique in that it will be held in Nagoya International airport, in a meeting room near the arrivals section. With the airport having a hotel and restaurants, you wont need to do much traveling and can in fact access the track by foot. Unfortunately, due to the Japanese 1/12th Nationals being held in early July they decided not to have the 1/12th modified class this year. There are lots of other attractive classes and the event is again open to international competitors. Racers interested can visit the official event site here, where you will find all the information also in English.

The Hobby Arena track saw hundreds of people come out to enjoy the event and track in Frumusani near Bucharest, not just from all around Romania, but they also had international visitors from Bulgaria, Italy, Hungary, Austria and Switzerland. The opening day was not only the occasion to present the track, it was a festival for the hobby and fun, everything for rc car enthusiasts, whether they are professionals or just hobbyists. The hosts, representatives of Hobby Arena, Autorc Hobby Store and Motosport Racing Team Club, spent every effort to make everybody feel at home. Soft drinks, soda’s, beer, even some meal, everything provided. This is the biggest project of its kind in Eastern Europe, and yes, this was a rc car festival.

John Ermen wins Benelux Cup

John Ermen wins Benelux Cup

Last weekend the Benelux cup was held in Bierset, Belgium and John Erman filed this report. ‘It was a little bumpy track with medium grip and a long straight. On Saturday we had some practice to setup the new Xray RX8 2013 spec car. I had some problems with the track layout as it was the first time for me on this track. But at the end of the day I had a good setup and the car/engine combination was good to go. On Sunday the weather was perfect, around 25 degrees and sunny. We had 3 qualifications and I was able to get 2nd position tight after Robin. In the last qualification I changed from the Blitz ARX to the Blitz R18 v2 body and the car was instantly better to handle but because some back markers I was unable to improve my time any further. But the car felt allot better than in the first 2 qualifications, so I was confident for the final.

Xray Challenge Grand Final report

Xray Challenge Grand Final report

The Xray Challenge Grand Final was held at the Hudy Racing Arena in Trencin, Slovakia and Alexander Hagberg made this report. ‘Once again we saw a perfectly organized event. More than 100 drivers from many different countries joined the race to come and have fun at this great venue. It was a good opportunity as well, to prepare for the upcoming ETS final. The race was run in seven different classes, both electric and nitro, to allow for all kinds of adrenaline charged fun. Unfortunately the weather gods were not with us on Friday as it rained away. It was not a problem for those who had signed up for the electric categories though, as the newly prepared indoor track was open for practice. New curbs and paint gave the track a really nice look and was very enjoyable to race on. Traction levels became high eventually as sugar water was used.

Silvio Hächler wins Swiss EFRA GP

Silvio Hächler wins Swiss EFRA GP

Last weekend the Swiss EFRA GP was held at the famous Lostallo track, but this time run in the opposite direction to normal. The track is really big with a very long straight and so it would be really hard to run the 5 minutes without a pit stop. After a wet Friday it was a sunny Saturday allowing for some nice racing. At the front the tactics were really different, Simon Kurzbuch, Claudio Paquin and Remy Hasler the 2nd till 4th from qualification did their runs all without a pit stop, the only one who was able to top this time was Silvio Hächler with fast runs including one pit stop.
