Groskamp tops final practice at Worlds

Practice for the fifth running of the IFMAR 1:10 Nitro Touring World Championship has been completed with Capricorn’s Jilles Groskamp topping the time sheets after the Dutch ace set down a blistering pace in the third & final controlled practice in Bangkok, Thailand, bringing Day 3 of the event to a close.  The newly crowned electric touring car World Champion knocked over half a second off his CP2 topping time leaving his opposition scratching their heads with Dario Balestri, who set the second fastest time, saying Groskamp was ‘too fast’ referring to the 4/10th extra pace he had over three consecutive laps.

Worlds CP2 Update – Groskamp fastest

In the second round of controlled practice for the Nitro Touring Car World Championships in Bangkok, Jilles Groskamp posted a blistering time to become the first & only driver to complete three consecutive laps of the RC Addict track in under 45 seconds.  With a qualifying set-up on his Capricorn, the Dutch ace ran a time of 44.984 to bump CP1 pace setter Atsushi Hara back to second, the Hot Bodies driver unable to improve on his morning time.  Describing his LAB C-02 as ‘really good’, Groskamp felt he could have gone even quicker had the tuning of his Maxima engine not been off.

Groskamp tops free practice in Bangkok

At the end of the second day of the 1:10 Nitro Touring Car World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, it was Capricorn’s Jilles Groskamp who in the final round of Free Practice jumped to the top of the time sheets ahead of arch rival Atsushi Hara who was unable to better his best three consecutive laps set earlier in the day in FP2. With FP3 interrupted by heavy rain causing a long delay to proceedings, the penultimate qualifier resumed on a dry track however the traction built up over the previous runs was washed away with Team Xray’s Surikarn C the only leading driver to be able to improve on his previous best.

Hara leads the way in Thailand

Making their 1:10 Nitro Touring Car World Championship debut, it is Team HB and Atsushi Hara who lead the way on the second day of free practice at the very well presented RC Addict track in Bangkok, Thailand.  The Japanese star, who now lives in Thailand and has his own pitroom overlooking the track, set the fastest three consecutive laps in the second of the day’s four scheduled 15-minute practice runs to head KM Racing’s Dario Balestri who had set the pace in the morning’s opening practice.  The fifth running of the bi-annual IFMAR event, this is the first occasion that the reigning champion will not travel to defend their title, a broken hand which is in cast forcing Ralph Burch to withdraw his entry.
