Darren Bloomfield wins 2wd at Worlds Warmup

The 1/10th electric offroad Worlds warmup takes place this weekend in Vaasa, Finland ahead of the main event which will be held in late July. After some days of practice on this challenging hard packed clay track, the 2wd class qualifying and finals took place today, with 4wd being run tomorrow. Qualifying saw Kyosho driver Jared Tebo take the pole position ahead of Losi driver Darren Bloomfield, with the pair tied on points, Jared taking it due to a faster time. Associated driver Ryan Maifield lined up 3rd with Mike Truhe and Ryan Cavalieri completing the top 5. In the finals it was former World Champion Cavalieri that took the victory in leg 1 ahead of Bloomfield, with Swedish Kyosho driver David Ronnefalk in 3rd. Leg 2 saw Bloomfield go one better and take the win ahead of TQ Jared Tebo, while Cavalieri came home in 3rd, setting up a final leg showdown between 3 drivers. Leg 3 saw Darren come through to win the decider in front of Tamiya man Lee Martin, with Jared Tebo taking 3rd, the result giving the TLR22 buggy the win with Bloomfield, with Ryan Cavalieri with his B4.1 in 2nd and Jared Tebo with the Kyosho chassis taking the final podium spot in 3rd.

Swiss EFRA GP – Announcement

The organisers of this year’s Swiss EFRA GP got in touch to tell us about the event, which will be used a warmup race for next year’s European B Championships which is hosted at the same track. Run from the 8th to the 10th of July in Oberburen, Switzerland, the event is open to 1/8th scale buggy and will be run according to EFRA rules. Drivers will get practice on Friday followed by 4 rounds of qualifying on Saturday, with finals on Sunday. More information can be found at the official event site here.

Futaba OS Jakarta Open 2011 – Announcement

The 2011 edition of the Futaba OS Jakarta Open will be held from the 18th to 19th of June in Senayan, Jakarta, Indonesia. Run on the Jakarta International Twin Circuit, the race is open to 1/10 Nitro touring 200mm and 1/8 Gas Onroad. The qualifying rounds will be held on Saturday the 18th with finals on Sunday the 19th. The event open for racers from all countries, with last year’s event seeing Steven Jovanovic from Australia win the 1/10 class and Leigh Dytor also from Australia win the 1/8 class. Thunder Power RC sign World Champion Marc Rheinard

Thunder Power RC have announced the signing of 3-time World and multi-time European Champion driver Marc Rheinard of Germany. Known as one of the world’s best on-road touring car racers, Marc will bring over 15 years of RC racing experience to the Thunder Power RC Team. Marc has signed a multi-year agreement to represent Thunder Power RC by using, supporting and promoting products at races world-wide. He had this to say:

I am looking forward to using Thunder Power RC batteries. I have seen firsthand how the products have performed in the RC racing circuit over the past couple of years. Thunder Power RC continues to advance LiPo batteries and technology for the RC industry, I am excited to be a part of these advancements and the team.

Marc will represent the TPRC Team at all major International and US electric/LiPo events and Marc’s touring car will hit the pavement for the first time as part of the team at the 2011 Reedy Race of Champions.

PY Tang wins 2011 MBA Cup

Last weekend saw the heavy weight racers from Singapore and Malaysia congregate to race at the inaugural Minyak Beku Agrotourism Resort Race (MBA CUP). The inaugural race for this venue is also a very unique venue as the track is right in the Resort compound, right beside the sandy beach. The weather was very good from the morning with the sunny sky shining down on the track right until the end of the day.

Austrian EP TC EFRA GP – Announcement

The organisers of this year’s European Electric touring car championships, which takes place in Traiskirchen, Austria in August, were in touch to tell everyone about the EFRA GP / official warmup event which will be run from the 27th to the 29th of May. Your standard warmup event, it will be run to EFRA rules and will give those racers planning to compete in the main event in summer some track time prior to the event. Joe Hwee wins Thunder Tiger Buggy Cup Rd2

Team JuC Racing Driver, Joe Hwee from Singapore has won round 2 of the Thunder Tiger Buggy Cup. Using a Hotbodies D8 Hara Edition and HB Beams tires, Joe qualified 2nd out of 60+ drivers and in the final managed to get the hole shot and overtook Top Qualifier David Lim driving a Kyosho MP9. Despite some challenge in the beginning, he managed to pull away from the field with the help of some fast fuelling by his pit crew and crossed the line at the end of the 45 minutes in first place.

Patrick Nähr wins European 1/10th 200mm ‘B’ title

The 2011 EFRA European 1/10th scale 200mm ‘B’ Championships was held this week at the fast and smooth Rucphen track in the Netherlands, a late venue change after the original host, the MACH in Heemstede, had problems with noise and were unable to run the event. Some 81 drivers from around Europe attended the event and with 4 rounds of qualifying, two on Thursday evening and two on Friday morning, it was Dutch National champion Pedro Rombouts that took the top qualifying spot with his Xray ahead of Shepherd driver Patrick Nähr in 2nd, the top 2 separated by less than a second and well clear of the rest of the field. Adam Catchpole took 3rd spot ahead of Daan Jacobs in 4th.
