Gerhard Kandelhart TQ’s 1/10th Euro B

This weekend sees the European 1/10th 200mm ‘B’ Championships take place in Aigen, Austria. With 112 drivers present from 17 different countries, qualifying got underway yesterday in perfect conditions after some rain earlier in the week threatened to put a dampener on the whole event, however in the evening a thunderstorm did manage to interrupt the opening ceremony. Today it was again very sunny with clear skies, and a lot of spectators around the track watching, as the final qualifying sessions to determine the starting order for the finals got underway. With 4 rounds each to set your quickest time, pole position went to former European Champion Gerhard Kandelhart from Austria driving an Xray NT1, the only driver to get 25 laps, in front of top electric racer Freddy Sudhoff from Germany also with an Xray. Kyosho managed to place a car directly into the final with Rico Krober in 3rd also from Germany, while the final direct qualifying spot went to Dutch front runner Daan Jacobs in 4th, also with an Xray.

Mark Green wins Dutch 1/8th EFRA GP

Mark Green has won the 2009 EFRA 1/8th scale Dutch GP held at the MACH track in Heemstede. Rain on Sunday caused chaos on-circuit as those racers who had actually decided to run risked it all on a very slippy and wet track. Following the semi finals it was John Ermen, Rick V., Christian Wurst, Oliver Mack, Arie Manten and Joey Sorber that would join the top 4 direct qualifiers Mark Green, Michael Salven, Jordy Blok and Jilles Groskamp in the main final. In the build up to the 45 minute final, the track appeared to be drying, and while still damp no longer had any standing water and this made the tire choice very difficult.

Mark Green TQ’s Dutch EFRA GP

This weekend sees the Dutch 1/8th scale EFRA GP take place at the World famous MACH circuit in Heemstede, close to Amsterdam. Following 2 days of practice on the Thursday and Friday of the event, competitors took to the track on Saturday for qualifying to decide the starting grid for Sunday’s finals. With drivers from Holland, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and England taking part it was multiple World Championship finalist Mark Green that took the top qualifying spot leading home a Serpent top 4 block out on their home track. In 2nd place was Serpent 966 designer Michael Salven, 2 seconds behind, with Jordy Blok and Jilles Groskamp, who is on a one race deal with the Dutch company, in 3rd and 4th. First of the non direct qualifiers was Motonica racer Robin D’hondt, just ahead of Mugen front man Rick V, with positions 3 to 6 covered by less than a second after 7 minutes. The finals will be run tomorrow and we will bring a full report from the days activities tomorrow evening.

Surikarn Chaidajsuriya confirmed for BUMOD GP

The organisers of the Bumod Turkish Grand Prix, which takes place in Bursa, Turkey from the 4th to the 7th of June have been in touch once more to tell us that they have confirmed entry from current 2002 ISTC World Champion Surikarn Chaidajsuriya. The Thai driver will be running his Xray NT1 alongside other well known gas racers such as Daniele Ielasi, Michael Salven, Jilles Groskamp, Robert Pietsch, DJ Apolaro, Patrick Schaefer and Dirk Wischnewski, with more driver announcements to come in the lead up to the race. Entry is now open for this event and you are guaranteed a warm reception from the Turkish hosts, who will also arrange transport and help find the best accommodation. Red RC will also be present throughout the event bringing live reports each day on our Events page.

International Touring Car Race Luxembourg

The RCCM in Luxembourg have announced that they will run an international touring car race prior to the 2009 European Championships for electric touring cars which will be hosted by the LMCC on the same track in July. The race will be held from the 12th to the 14th of June and is open to modified touring car as well as other support classes. The track, with its world famous Laguna Seca style chicane in which the track drops in elevation, offers the driver plenty more challenges throughout its 310 meters length. Entries for this event are now open. Please note that this is not the official warm up race for the 2009 Euros on the same track, that event will be held 2 weeks later.

Jared Tebo wins Neo 09 race

Less than a week after his big win at the Silver State Team Orion/Kyosho/AKA factory driver Jared Tebo made the long trip over to the UK to compete against Europe’s best at the Neo 09 Race. The race format consisted of five 10-minute qualifiers with the point totals from 3 out of the 5 rounds to be used to seed the drivers into the semi’s. A 20-minute semi would then ran to advance the top drivers into the 45-minute A-Main. Tebo went on to TQ rounds 3, 4, and 5 to set the overall TQ and would then start first on the grid for the 20-minute Semi which he won by 10 seconds over 2nd place. For the 45-Minute A-Main JT would once again start from the pole position and at the start of the tone Jared got a good start and began to gap the field. After the first rounds of pit stops Tebo was still out front and looking good. With 7-minutes left to go in the main, Tebo came in for his last fuel stop and came out with close to an 8 second lead on UK’s Darren Bloomfield and never looked back. Jared went on to win from Losi driver Bloomfield in 2nd and Tamiya driver Ryan Lutz 3rd.

Daniele Ielasi confirmed for BUMOD GP

The former European 1/8th scale Champion will be running his IDM powered Shepherd Velox V8 in the event, alongside other well known gas racers such as Michael Salven, Jilles Groskamp, Robert Pietsch, DJ Apolaro, Patrick Schaefer and Dirk Wischnewski, with more driver announcements to come in the lead up to the race.
