Russian Gran-Prix 2013 - Announcement

Hobby Expo 2013 and MicroRC.ru have announced the second running of their large international indoor off-road event, the Russian Gran-Prix 2013. The event will be held in Moscow from the 19th to the 21st of April and the carpet covered track is 30X18 meters. Specially designed for this event, which has so far attracted 170 entries, there are still places available so if you are interested you can enter. The race will feature top racers from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Finland to battle it out in 9 electric classes covering OffRoad 1:18, OffRoad 1:10, OffRoad 1:8. Olly Jefferies joins Sanwa

LRP in Germany have announced that current British National Touring Car Champion Olly Jefferies has joined Sanwa. The factory Associated race who is also reigning 1/12th scale National will run the Sanwa Exzes-X 2.4GHz stick radio and SDX-801 low profile servo in his rides. He had this to say about the deal:

For me the Sanwa range is the best product on the market currently, the quality is superb and the performance on track is incredible. I have been extremely impressed with the Sanwa products and look forward to using them throughout the 2013 season.

Marco Kaufmann signed to Xray factory team

Xray have announced that Marco Kaufmann has joined their factory world racing team. Marco is a young talented driver who has showed in the last years excellent results and permanent growth. Marco and Xray have joined the forces for the 2013 season to achieve the best possible race results at German and international events. Marco will race the T4 platform and will participate all major international races and he had this to say:

I have been racing with Xray since I have started to drive RC Cars. I choose Xray because the quality and performance are both perfect. I am very proud to represent this finest company and to be part of the Xray world racing team. I’m looking forward to great and successful future. In 2013 I will concentrate mainly on 1/10 electric touring modified class and I hope some more great results will come.

Mike Swauger double at Airtronics race

Picco are reporting that Mike Swauger dominated the 2013 Airtronics race in Southern California in both 1/8th and 1/10th scale with Picco EMX Power engines. The talent that came to the Airtronics race is a show case of what the Nationals is going to be like with some of the best drivers in the USA coming to do battle. Mike TQ’d the 1/8th class and won by 2 laps over Paolo Morganti and won the sedan class ahead of DJ Apolaro. Robert Morris took the win the Sportsman class also using Picco engines.

Max Flurer triple at Psycho Nitro Blast

The Psycho Nitro Blast has become the largest spectacle for RC racing in the southeast United States. Taking place in a rodeo arena, the event collected over 608 combined entries of nitro and electric racers. A near, round-the-clock schedule utilizing 10-minute qualifiers made the event a true test of man and machine. With a grueling track and schedule, the attrition rate wears on the cars and people. The sacrificial punishment appears to be all the rage, people keep digging it and the event keeps growing every year.

ETS organisers announce Pilot Series for onroad nitro

The organisers of the Euro Touring Series, the world famous championship for electric touring cars, are pleased to announce, following ongoing requests from a number of leading, onroad nitro manufacturers and drivers the establishment of a two round Euro Nitro Series Pilot Series for 2013 as preparations for a full five round championship in 2014. Catering for both 1:10 & 1:8 Onroad, the first of the 3-day events in the ENS Pilot Series will take place at Hockenhiem in Germany from May 31-June 2 with race two to be held in Austria at Stöhr-Ring on the weekend of June 28-30.

Carlos Lambas wins Comunidad de Madrid Cup

The Comunidad de Madrid Cup took place last weekend at the Asoger Circuit. It was a wet start to the day and choice of tires was difficult, because only one set is allowed for the entire race. The rain stopped, but the track surface was still a bit wet and closer to the finals the track was drying up and having more grip. Carlos Lambas (Yokomo, Dualsky) managed to win the first two finals from pole position and so sat out the third final. Behind there was a close battle for 2nd overall between Rafa Ortiz (T.O.P., Acorn) and Carlos Fernandez (T.O.P., Acorn). In the end Rafael Ortiz took the second position in the leg but overall he would finish 3rd behind Isaiah Paul in 2nd.

Wheeler extends deal with Xray through 2013

Xray have announced that top US off-road & truggy driver Josh Wheeler will continue to race with the Xray team in 2013. Josh will race the XB9, XT8 and also in the 1/10 class with the new XB4. The multiple Worlds and US National finalist had this to say about the extension:

It has been great working with a top notch company like Xray for many years. I look forward to many more years of great racing and good times with Xray and the Hudy family. Xray’s commitment to perfection and making the best parts possible has allowed me to chase my dreams and compete with the top drivers in the world. Xray and the Hudy family works nonstop to provide the best parts and constantly push the RC industry. It is through this dedication that we will hopefully soon get the World Championship we are looking for.
