Boda continues domination of French 1:10 Offroad Nationals

Sworkz team driver Clément Boda continued his domination of the French 1:10 Offroad National Championships with another double victory at Round 2 over the weekend.  Winning both 2WD and 4WD at last month’s season opener, which was hosted by Club Auto Modelisme St Exupery on their indoor carpet track, Round 2 was also on carpet but this time outdoors at the track of Mini Racing Club Antibois.  In 2WD qualifying it would be the Xray of Noha Ben Mohamed who would secure the overall TQ from Boda with the order reversed in 4WD.  In the finals, Boda would win the first two 2WD encounters to wrap up the win but in 4WD it would go to A3 as Mohamed won A2 from Boda by just 3/10ths of a second.  Staying out front in A3, Boda would maintain his 100% Nationals winning streak.  The 4WD podium would be completed by Valentin Peuziat while in 2WD Carl Maignien rounded out the Top 3.

Miedema wins International Dutch F1 Masters

Jitse Miedema has won the International Dutch F1 Masters, the Infinity driver becoming the champion of the annual event for a fourth time.  Previously held at the ISTC World Championship hosting MACH track, the 2023 edition of IDFM would take competitors to the RC Hotwheels Deventer, where Miedema immediately made his intentions clear in practice.  In qualifying the Dutchman who secure the overall TQ from the Xray of Britain’s Luke Lee, Miedema topping 3 of the five rounds compared to Lee’s two fastest times.  Bram Lagerwey, driving an Infinity completed the Top 3 on the grid.  Triple 10-minute finals, A1 saw Miedema win by 3-seconds from Lagerwey who found away passed Lee who struggled in the finals with either with a lack of rear grip or steering.  The result was repeated in A2 and 3 for Miedema to lead an Infinity 1-2 from Lagerwey with Lee completing the podium ahead of the Schumacher of Michael Lee and another of the British visitors James Greener.

Yokomo welcomes back Meen V

Yokomo has announced the return of Meen Vejrak to their factory touring car team line-up.  The Thai driver was a formidable member of the Japanese team’s international race squad during their tenure as the 2016 ISTC World Champion manufacturer and rejoins after a short stint with Serpent.  The former 200mm Nitro World Champion is the latest signing by the brand who look to be re-establishing their strong presence in touring car racing around the globe.  Commenting on the announcement, Meen said, “I am more than happy to come back to Yokomo.  I’m still motivated and believe we can achieve more great results together.  Look forward to seeing you at the tracks.”

Bermudez wins inaugural Montpellier GP Brushless

Having won SuperPole yesterday to become the Top Qualifier, Rémy Bermudez has won the inaugural Montpellier GP Brushless in France.  Xray’s young talent had a tough start to finals day at Circuit du Mini Bolide Montpellierain as the first of the four A-Main Legs resulted in a DNF while the HB Racing of Theo Lemaire took the win from the Infinity of Riccardo Berton.  Resetting for Leg 2, Bermudez resumed normal service winning the 10-minute encounter by 1-second from Berton.  Having had issues of his own in qualifying yesterday, leaving him 9th on the grid, Bruno Coelho would come through for the Leg 3 win but in the decider it was Bermudez who delivered the win to secure the overall title ahead of Berton with Coelho completing the podium.  Behind,  Lemaire took fourth ahead of Mayako’s David Ronnefalk and Tekno’s Marco Baruffolo.

Bermudez Top Qualifier at Montpellier GP Brushless

Young French talent Rémy Bermudez will lead away the A-Mains at the Montpellier Brushless GP tomorrow after the Xray driver won the SuperPole battle from Marco Baruffolo to be declared Top Qualifier at the inaugural running of the event.  With the Nitro edition of the Montpellier Grand Prix holding the long standing honours of being the event to kickstart the annual outdoor buggy racing season in Europe, the first electric edition has attracted a strong international field with the Infinity of Italy’s Riccardo Berton topping the ranking after the four rounds of qualifying.  Topping Q2 & 3 he was followed the Tekno of fellow countryman Baruffolo, fastest in Q4, with Bermudez ending up third overall having topped the opening qualifier.  Two time European eBuggy Champion David Ronnefalk would take his Mayako to P4.  In Superpole Bermudez would be the only driver to record a 33-second lap topping the battle from Baruffolo.  The A-Mains will be run over four legs with each driver’s best three to count.

Roman & Herman selected for ‘Rising Star Program’

A program that was started at the Canadian National Championship in 2018,  the ‘Rising Star Program’ was awarded to two young talents of the hobby at the latest running of the Onroad Nationals in Ontario over the weekend.  Having made the award for the first time to an American driver Riley Drennen last November at the legendary U.S. Indoor Champs in Cleveland, this time round they selected Julianna Roman and Paxton Herman based on them exhibiting sportsmanship and dedication to the hobby.  The panel have looked at Juliana year after year but never had a pan car option so were really pleased to finally give her the award thanks to CRC.  Hoping to grow the program and get more manufactures on board so they can expand it around the world they have already been contacted by RC Maker since the latest presentation saying they want to be involved in the future!  As part of being selected as ‘Rising Stars’,  Julianna and Paxton were each presented with full racing outfits from the program’s supporters – Teamzombie Canada (batteries), Motiv/Gravity (tyres and motors), SJT Tires (tyres), CRC (car kit), Orca (esc), Key Fulcrum (servos), Rs3d Printing (car stands), JT bearings (bearing kits), Outlaw RC (free racing for there class next year), Phoenix RC Raceway (free practice and racing for a season) and Niagara RC (indoor free practice and racing for a season).

Hamon wins 1:8 GT Worlds Warm-up Race

Serpent team driver Jeff Hamon took the win at a rain effect 1:8 GT World Championship Warm-up Race  over the weekend.  The 1:10 and 1:8 Nitro Onroad World finalist, would top 4 of the 6 rounds of qualifying at the John Grant International Raceway in Sydney to secure the overall TQ ahead of another of Australia’s international nitro racers and World finalists Peter Jovanovic.  The Capricorn driver topping Q2 with the Xray of Michael Stone the only other driver to top a round when he was fastest in the final qualifier.  Posting three Top 3 runs Tim Moylan’s Mugen would qualify third and unfortunately the arrival of rain meant racing couldn’t progress passed the Semi Finals and so the result was declared on qualifying.  As well being the official Warm-up Race for the second running of the IFMAR 1:8 GT World Championships which are scheduled for October 08-15, the race was also the NSW Onroad State Title decider.  In 1:10 Brayden Stanley took his Infinity to the win in the 30 minute final ahead of David Chen and Tate Firth while in 1:8 Jovanovic took the title based off qualifying from Leigh Dytor and Tim Moylan.

Wood wins British 1:8 Onroad Nationals opener

Tim Wood has won the opening round of the 2023 BRCA British 1:8 Onroad National Championships.  Hosted by the Cotswold Model Car Club over the weekend, the first encounter of the 6 round championship would see the Team Shepherd driver top all four rounds of qualifying but it was his run in Q3 that secured him the TQ honours.  Behind, Andrew Hastings would line-up second with his Capricorn after he posted his fastest time in Q2.  John Carr completed the Top 3 posting his quickest run in the penultimate qualifier.  In the 30-minute final it would be a repeat of last year’s penultimate round visit to the Cotswolds track, as Wood secured a comfortable win with his Hasi Tuned powered Velox V8.2s.  Hastings would finish second while the Serpent of Matthieu Dambrine, fifth fastest in qualifying, completed the podium as Carr retired after 8-minutes.
