Xray Column – Testing Always last minute, Always new ideas

Xray Column - Testing Always last minute, Always new ideas

The 33rd installment in the Xray column from Xray owner and chief designer Juraj Hudy is now online. In this months column, Juraj takes about fitting in development and testing of their various projects around their very busy Summer racing schedule.

As with every other team, we have worked very hard before this particular battle. Work has been done both off and on the track; the huge amount of work would not be feasible for a single person but rather required the combined teamwork of the racing and R&D teams. After the Off-road warm-up in Austria back in May, we were ready to participate at the official Nitro Touring Euros warm-up in Italy. However, due to some very important work and projects in the factory we had no free time and as such we had to skip the official warm-up and find an alternative date for private testing.

LiPo approved for 2010 IFMAR World Championships

LiPo approved for 2010 IFMAR World Championships

The 2010 IFMAR 1:10 Electric Touring Car World championship will permit the use of LiPo batteries after agreement was reached at the IFMAR AGM between EFRA, who proposed the rule, and ROAR, who already permit the new generation power in their National Championship. Held during the 1:8 Onroad World Championships in Switzerland last week there was talk ahead of the electric section meeting that EFRA and ROAR could not agree on the dimensions of the LiPo packs as the European Federation proposed a smaller pack than those already permitted by the Americans, who since allowing LiPo have built up a list of 120 approved packs for racing. Gladly the two federations put the best interests of the racer first and on Saturday morning IFMAR Vice-President Dawn Sanchez confirmed to Red RC that LiPo will be permitted for the 2010 Worlds. Full details of the exact ruling on the LiPo packs which will be published shortly on the IFMAR website. The use of LiPo batteries has been adopted by most national federations and hopefully EFRA will add continuity to the sport at their AGM in November by approving LiPo for next year’s European Touring Car Championships.

Joern Neumann wins season opener in Germany

Joern Neumann wins season opener in Germany

The opening round of the German 1/8th buggy Nationals were held last weekend in Senden. The event attracted 132 drivers and saw 4 rounds of controlled practice on Friday and 2 more rounds of practice on Saturday morning. In these 2 practice rounds, the 3 fastest laptimes in a row count towards reseeding the groups for qualifying and after that there were 5 rounds of qualifying with the best 3 counting. TQ went to Daniel Reckward, with Jörn Neumann in 2nd place and Tim Bremicker in 3rd. At the start of the 40 minute main final it was Daniel and Jörn that were battling it out for the victory. Jörn made a little mistake that cost him around 3-4 seconds and so Daniel had a 5 seconds lead. With Jörn pushing very hard he closed the gap and at the 30 minutes mark was able to pass Daniel and he never looked back. Joern took the win from Daniel Reckward in 2nd and Tim Bremicker in 3rd. The 2nd round is in 2 weeks in Osterhofen.
