FSEARA Rd5 Coral Spring – Report

Round 5 of the FSEARA saw another strong 94 entries event at the Coral Spring RC club, The highest count for this season. Saturday’s practice was filled with lots of laps and tons of traction, The track was on fire, but Sunday was another day. Even though the perfect weather for racing, the cold air and wind brought on a new challenge. The mini wind storm blew all of the sand/dirt on the track resulting in an overall 1sec slower pace than Saturday. The Coral Spring Crew did the best to blow off the track between rounds to keep the condition as best as possible. Thank you to Chris Crowder on the mic keeping the program running smooth, we were able to complete 3 qualifying rounds and main this time.

Flávio Elias takes 2020 Brazilian national title

Last weekend the 3rd and final round of the 2020 Brazilian nationals was held at the track of Americana as the race had been postponed in December due to the pandemic situation. Again Shepherd team driver Flávio Elias showed great performance and took the TQ spot but he had difficulties in the race and had to retire allowing Eduardo Dulac to take victory. The result however, along with those in the previous two rounds, was enough for Elias to take the 2020 Brazilian national 1/8 IC track title in front of fellow Shepherd racer Samuel Prato.

Ryan Maifield triple at 22nd Dirt Nitro Challenge

Ryan Maifield has completed the triple Crown at this year’s Dirt Nitro Challenge, the Mugen/JConcepts driver taking a clean sweep of all the Pro classes. Held at Thunder Alley in California, the 22nd running of the World Famous event, saw little to no foreign entries for the first time in years as Covid prevented teams traveling from abroad. In the Pro Buggy class it was TLR/JConcepts driver Dakotah Phend that would take the pole position ahead of HB Racing’s Cole Ogden. In the final, having starting from 4th, Maifield would use his vast experience as a previous multiple winner of this event, to come through and win ahead of Ogden in 2nd with Mugen driver Tanner Denney completing the podium in 3rd. Pro E Buggy again saw Phend on the pole position, but again was unable to convert his front starting spot into the win as Maifield took the overall win ahead of his JConcepts’ team mate Phend in 2nd, with the Team Associated of Spencer Rivkin bringing it home in 3rd. In the Pro Truggy it was more of the same as Phend would again capture the overall TQ but be passed by Maifield in the 45 minute final for the win, Tekno RC’s Joe Bornhorst would work his way up from the 11th place starting position to capture the final podium spot.

RC Maker A12 LCG weights & bumper brace

For the Awesomatix A12, RC Maker have produced some LCG weights and a GeoCarbon Bumper brace. The GeoCarbon bumper mount is made from 2mm carbon and helps secure the bumper firmly with the supplied plastic supports. This provides a nice platform for the body to sit on, as well as supporting the bumper at the same time. In terms of weights, there is a brass LCG Front Weight (10g) that replaces the AM1206 for increased weight at the front of the car. This makes the car less responsive and easier to drive. There are also brass LCG rear weights (6.5g ea) that attach to the rear of the chassis and increase the unsprung weight at the rear of the car. This increases the cars rotation, particularly handy for very tight tracks.
